Job description
On 1 April 2026, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) became one national organisation, focused on continuity today and a stronger, more connected service for tomorrow. As part of this transformation, NSS and NES have joined to form a new organisation: Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland). This new organisation will play a pivotal role in supporting the renewal and ensuring the long‑term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland. About the Organisation PSD Scotland unites expertise from NES and NSS in a way that will allow us to accelerate national programmes to support the NHS to deliver better care, now and in the future. We support staff with education and training, provide the tools and data that improve services, and run vital national functions such as procurement, logistics and blood, tissue and cell services. The Post The postholder would be based within the medical physics team, within Screening Oversight and Assurance Scotland, Clinical Directorate. They would impact the effectiveness of the Scottish Breast Screening Programme, as the medical physics team undertake quality assurance for 6 Breast Screening Centres and 25 mobile mammography units. The team also support radiation protection across Public Services Delivery Scotland. The post holder would provide advice and technical services primarily to the Scottish Breast Screening Programme (SBSP) in particular in the area of medical physics quality assurance (QA). The postholder would work with Health Boards, the Scottish Government Health and Social Care Directorates (SGHSCH) and equipment suppliers. The Candidate The post holder will be educated to at least degree level in clinical technology, physical science, engineering, radiography or an equivalent level of knowledge (e.g. technical HND plus relevant experience). Ideally, they should have received appropriate training in mammography physics (e.g. the training provided by IPEM). The post holder will be able to demonstrate experience in medical technology, ideally as it relates to mammography equipment. The post holder must be able to demonstrate initiative, good written and verbal communication skills as well as tact, diplomacy, time management, IT and technical skills as the post involves dealing with a wide range of knowledgeable customers, suppliers, trade organisations and user groups. A full current driving licence is necessary. The post holder should be eligible for registration under the Register of Clinical Technologists or an equivalent PSA approved register. Location and Working Pattern The postholder is expected to be home based, but other bases (Gyle, Delta House) could also be considered. The post is full time (36 hours per week) and the normal working pattern would be Monday-Friday and between 9am to 5pm. However, some working days would be longer due to the travel requirements and may involve some overnight stays. It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK and have entitlement to work in the UK for the post in which you will be employed.
