Job description
Job Title: Teacher of English Line Manager: Head of English Location: Leicester Hours: Full time (part time considered) Salary: In line with Teachers' Pay Scale 32,916 - 54,047 per annum Start: August 2026 Job Overview Clarence Recruitment are seeking a highly capable and enthusiastic Teacher of English to join a well-established and successful department from the start of the new academic year. This is an excellent opportunity for both early career teachers and experienced practitioners to further develop their teaching in a supportive and high-performing environment. Key Responsibilities * Plan and deliver engaging and effective English lessons in line with curriculum requirements. * Teach a range of English topics, including literature and language, to students of varying abilities. * Assess, monitor and report on student progress, providing clear feedback and setting appropriate targets. * Support students in developing reading, writing and critical thinking skills. * Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all learners. * Contribute to the development of schemes of work and teaching resources. * Maintain an organised and stimulating classroom environment. * Support the management and use of learning resources and materials. * Contribute to the delivery of the pastoral curriculum and act as a form tutor where required. * Undertake supervisory duties in line with organisational expectations. * Participate in meetings with colleagues, parents and carers. * Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practice. Person Specification Essential Qualifications * Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). * Experience teaching English to students aged 11-16. * Strong subject knowledge across English Language and Literature. * Ability to deliver engaging and effective lessons. * Ability to assess, track and report on student progress. * Competence in using ICT to support teaching and learning. * Strong communication and organisational skills. * Ability to support students of all abilities to achieve their potential. * Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. * Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. Desirable Qualifications * Experience teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and 5 if applicable). * Experience contributing to curriculum development. * Experience of pastoral responsibilities, including form tutor role. * Evidence of ongoing professional development.
