Job description

About the role:

Reading ASC Centre is a purpose-built centre in the grounds of Reading College. We have two large classrooms, a kitchen, quiet room and our own garden. Students access the ASC Centre either as their primary learning space or as an additional support provision. Learners either access a full-time programme to support transition and engagement with education, or an appropriate course in the main college building.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Learning Support Assistant to be based at our ASC Centre at Reading college. The main purpose of this role is to support the retention and achievement of students receiving ASC Centre additional learning support.

This includes students on course at the ASC Centre and accessing programmes within the wider college. Including Life Skills, Mainstream and Employability courses.

Working closely with the ASC Centre team and external agencies, you will help to ensure that autistic learners, that may have other complex needs, are adequately provided for and supported.

You will assist in the consultation process of students to accurately identify their learning support needs and to ensure that college learning support staff and resources are deployed efficiently with timetabling and duty rotas to provide adequate cover and support throughout the day for our students.

This is a full time (37 hours) permanent position working Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.30am - 5pm. This role is term time only following College term dates.

What do you need to be a successful Senior LSA at Activate Learning?

The successful candidate will have good knowledge of autism and other learning difficulties and disabilities. You will have knowledge and previous experience of working with Education Health and Care Plans. Understanding the need for a student- centered and trauma informed approach and ability to offer varying support strategies to cover diverse learning needs.

You will have excellent communication and organisation skills; you will be a role model of professionalism with the ability to develop and sustain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You will be able to work independently and demonstrate flexibility contributing to the team’s effectiveness and be able to react to organisational change quickly and positively.

E-literate and competent IT and administration skills are essential.
