Job description
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust Locum Consultant Radiologist - General Body and Head and Neck Imaging The closing date is 23 April 2026. We would like to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic Locum Radiologist who wishes to develop their careers in our department's traditionally friendly, harmonious, and supportive environment. This is a 2 year fixed‑term full‑time appointment to support the Imaging services across the UHDB. The post is based at the UHDB, mainly split between the two major sites with acute care facilities (RDH and QHB). Following the expansion of our services associated with our successful Community Diagnostic Centres, we are looking to appoint Consultant Radiologists across multiple sub‑speciality interests, in General Body imaging with a subspeciality in Head & Neck imaging. The appointed candidate will work with a team of established specialist radiologists providing diagnostic imaging expertise in Radiology. The Trust has 54 Consultant Radiologists (part and full time). In addition, we have 18 Speciality Registrars on rotation from Nottingham and Leicester. The appointed consultant is expected to cover general reporting in addition to their sub‑speciality work and participate on the diagnostic on‑call rota at the Royal Derby Hospital. The on‑call work will be supported by a large cross‑site team of 12 reporting radiographers reporting plain film and MSK MRI. Job responsibilities In addition to specialist interests, all consultants will be involved in providing a general clinical service to the Trust: * Out‑of‑hours responsibilities, including participation in the Radiology consultant on‑call rota. * Active participation in undergraduate and postgraduate education, including training sessions for Foundation Years, Specialty Registrars, and medical students. * Provision of cover for your consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave, including care of patients and supervision of doctors in training. * Responsible for the professional supervision, training, and management of junior medical staff, carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to postgraduate and CPD activity locally and nationally as appropriate. Please note, this is a fixed‑term post for 24 months. Any extension beyond this would be dependent on candidates working towards CESR/Portfolio Pathway during the term of the contract, with the aim of gaining GMC Specialist Registration. Person Specification Qualifications / Specialist * MBBS or equivalent * FRCR or equivalent * Full GMC registration with a licence to practice at date of commencement * Additional higher medical / scientific degree relevant to the specialty * GMC Specialist Register for Radiology OR within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview OR if applying for Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice simultaneously with a Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) application, supporting documentary evidence must be provided at interview, to confirm an application has been submitted and is under consideration by the GMC Clinical Experience * Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining a UK CCST in general radiology * Current / recent NHS experience * 7 years of NHS experience * Evidence of ability to report general imaging. * Evidence of ability to perform and report fluoroscopic exams including barium studies, general ultrasound and plain film. * Evidence of ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients. * Evidence of ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and share clinical responsibilities * 5 years supervised training in an appropriate ST equivalent training programme * NHS experience for at least 7 years and ability to perform general work across all modalities apart from MRI Management and Administrative * Experience of audit and its impact on management and patient outcomes * Commitment to continuing professional development and the requirements of clinical governance * Attended a management course for consultants Teaching Experience * Experience of and commitment to teaching undergraduates and postgraduates * Experience of supervising ST trainees * Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to under‑graduates * Attended a recognised teaching training course Audit / Research * Experience of and commitment to clinical audit Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions. #J-18808-Ljbffr
