Job description
Finance Opportunities in the Charity Sector Charity Jobs NI is currently representing a number of charities and third sector organisations across Northern Ireland who are keen to connect with experienced finance professionals. There are a variety of current and upcoming opportunities available, ranging from Finance Assistant and Accounts Assistant roles through to Finance Officer, Senior Finance Officer, Finance Manager and wider finance leadership positions. These opportunities offer the chance to use your finance skills in a meaningful, purpose-driven environment, supporting charities that deliver important work across communities, services, education, health, social care, the environment and beyond. About the Opportunities The charity and voluntary sector offers a wide range of finance roles, each playing an important part in helping organisations remain financially sound, well-managed and able to deliver on their mission. Depending on the role, opportunities may include supporting day-to-day finance operations, processing income and expenditure, preparing journals, managing purchase and sales ledgers, assisting with payroll, carrying out reconciliations, supporting month-end and year-end processes, preparing funding claims, maintaining financial records, assisting with audit preparation and producing reports that help senior teams make informed decisions. These roles may suit candidates currently working as a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant, Finance Officer, Senior Finance Officer, Accounts Officer, Bookkeeper, Payroll Officer, Finance Administrator, Assistant Accountant, Management Accounts Assistant or Finance Manager who are interested in moving into, or progressing within, the charity sector. Who Charity Jobs NI Is Keen to Hear From Charity Jobs NI would be particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: Experience working in finance, accounts, bookkeeping, payroll or financial administration. Knowledge of accounting systems such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks or similar finance packages. Experience processing income and expenditure, invoices, payments, reconciliations or journals. Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with financial data. Experience supporting management accounts, budgets, cashflow, audit preparation or financial reporting. An understanding of grant-funded work, funding claims or restricted and unrestricted funds would be helpful for some roles, but is not essential for every opportunity. Qualifications such as Accounting Technician, AAT, IATI, part-qualified accountancy or equivalent experience may be relevant for some vacancies. However, Charity Jobs NI is also keen to speak with candidates who have developed strong practical finance experience through their career to date. Board and Trustee Opportunities Charity Jobs NI may also have opportunities for finance professionals who are interested in using their experience at board or trustee level. Many charities value the insight, governance support and financial oversight that experienced finance professionals can bring to their board. This may appeal to individuals who are interested in supporting a cause they care about, strengthening their leadership experience, contributing to good governance, or giving back to the sector in a voluntary non-executive capacity. Whether you are actively looking for your next paid finance role, exploring future career options, or interested in a trustee or board position, Charity Jobs NI would be pleased to hear from you. Why Consider a Finance Role in the Charity Sector? Finance professionals play a vital role in the charity sector. Behind every successful service, project or community initiative, there is a need for strong financial management, accurate reporting and careful stewardship of funds. Working in charity finance can offer the opportunity to bring your technical skills into an environment where your work directly supports organisations with a clear social purpose. Many roles also offer variety, close working relationships with senior teams and the chance to contribute to the long-term sustainability of charities doing important work across Northern Ireland. Many of the charities Charity Jobs NI works with also offer excellent workplace benefits, which may include hybrid working, flexible working patterns, enhanced annual leave packages, condensed working weeks and part-time opportunities where appropriate. This means there may be options available for candidates seeking not only a meaningful role, but also a working arrangement that better supports their lifestyle and career goals. Depending on the organisation and role, opportunities may include full-time or part-time hours, permanent or fixed-term contracts, office-based, hybrid or flexible working arrangements, and routes for continued professional development. Register Your Interest If you are an experienced finance professional, or if you are building your career in accounts, payroll, bookkeeping or financial administration and would like to explore opportunities in the charity sector, Charity Jobs NI would be delighted to hear from you. Simply submit your CV to register your interest. A member of the Charity Jobs NI team will be in touch to discuss your experience, career goals and any current or upcoming finance opportunities that may be a suitable fit. Applications and expressions of interest will be reviewed on receipt, so early engagement is encouraged. Charity Jobs NI is proud to support charities and third sector organisations across Northern Ireland with specialist recruitment services, helping connect skilled professionals with meaningful roles across the sector.
