Job description
The water industry is undergoing a period of significant transformation, with unprecedented investment driving the need for more resilient, efficient and sustainable infrastructure. At Stantec, our Electrical Engineering teams are at the forefront of this change, delivering innovative EICA solutions that support critical water and wastewater projects across the UK.

We're looking for a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to join our growing Water business, based in London, High Wycombe or Reading . This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer who wants to influence technical strategy, shape project delivery and help develop the next generation of engineering talent. You'll work alongside industry specialists, collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and play a key role in delivering solutions that have a lasting impact on communities and the environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer, you'll provide strategic technical leadership across complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects, ensuring engineering excellence from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support.

You will:
  • Lead the delivery of complex electrical and EICA design solutions across major infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.
  • Act as a technical authority, providing guidance on design standards, engineering approaches and project delivery.
  • Oversee the production and review of key deliverables including Single Line Diagrams, Block Cable Diagrams, Network Infrastructure Diagrams, technical specifications and control philosophies.
  • Collaborate with clients, project managers, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated engineering outcomes.
  • Provide technical mentorship and leadership to engineers, supporting capability development across the team.
  • Contribute to business growth through client relationships, framework delivery, bids and continuous improvement initiatives.

YOUR IMPACT

As a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to influence some of the UK's most important water infrastructure programmes. Your expertise will help clients deliver safer, more efficient and more sustainable assets while supporting the industry's transition towards a more resilient future.

Beyond technical delivery, you'll help shape the direction of our Electrical Engineering team, developing people, driving innovation and sharing knowledge across the wider business. Your leadership will contribute to projects that directly benefit communities, protect the environment and support long-term sustainability goals.

ABOUT YOU Essential
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards professional registration.
  • Extensive experience delivering electrical or EICA design within water, utilities, infrastructure or related sectors.
  • Proven experience leading complex engineering projects and providing technical direction.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering standards, design processes and technical governance.
  • Experience mentoring, developing and supporting engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence clients, stakeholders and project teams.

Desirable
  • Experience working within the UK water sector.
  • Experience leading HAZOPs, technical reviews and multidisciplinary design workshops.
  • Knowledge of DSEAR requirements and hazardous area design.
  • Experience supporting bids, frameworks and business development activities.
  • Previous experience in a senior technical leadership role.
