Solo Placement Lead

Overview Lincolnshire NEST (Nacro Education, Support and Transition) Youth Housing We are a national social justice charity with more than 50 years’ experience of changing lives, building stronger communities, and reducing crime. Last year alone we helped support, house, educate, advise, and speak out for 38,000 disadvantaged young people and adults - you could now help us make an even bigger impact going forward. Here at NEST we are commissioned by Lincolnshire County Council Children Services to provide accommodation and support to 16-21 year olds across the county of Lincolnshire. Within NEST we have solo placement houses, located within the city of Lincoln and are a short distance away from each other. Our houses offer a safe, homey environment (think family homes, not institutions) for one young person. Most of our young people have experienced some level of childhood trauma and as such they all have a variety of support needs varying from substance misuse, undiagnosed learning needs, a lack of independent living skills, offending behaviours and mental health needs. As a Solo Placement Lead, be responsible for coordinating the support package of one of our Young People within their own home. You\ll ensure the team delivers personalised support to meet the young persons needs, every day will offer a range of exciting new challenges and opportunities for you to make a difference. One day your team may be supporting a young person to devise a meal plan and support them to cook a meal. The next, we may support them to access an open day at a local education provider. As you build trust and mutual respect with the young person you will get to know them so you can build a bank of resources to best support them. Our young people can challenge, they can break house rules and push boundaries but, for many, they do this because they’ve never had any boundaries to follow; so they don’t know how to. Our young people will sometimes feel angry, hurt or upset and will not know how to communicate such emotions but, overtime, as they start to build up trust with you and see you as a positive person in their life they will more readily accept your support. Our team report that this is the most magical time for them, to see their young person achieve things that they’ve never achieved before and knowing that they have played a part in this! We don\t do personal care, restraints, or community supervision here. Our young people are capable individuals we treat with respect, actively preparing them for independence. You\ll lead the team to be their guide, using creativity to encourage their participation in support sessions. There\s paperwork involved (action planning, safety planning, monitoring), but it\s all about documenting their progress! Overall our young people need someone to lead their home who is truly invested in their journey at NEST who can become a trusted individual in their life. All of our young people have a story to tell. Do you want to be a part of their story As we support Young People in their home around the clock, this role involves shift work (mornings, afternoons and evenings) on a rolling rota, this role does not include overnight working.
