Job description
Psychology Graduate - Mental Health Assistant Are you looking for an opportunity that will allow you to make a difference? A role that will set you up with amazing experience? A fantastic role has recently become available at our highly regarded specialist school in Oxford. This school looks after children who have been excluded from education or struggle to maintain a place in mainstream education. Many of them have co‑existing social, emotional and mental health needs, and some also face barriers to learning. They are often dealing with trauma and neglect which negatively impacts their learning. The school needs a mental health assistant to support students in their day‑to‑day activities. Students attending are primary and secondary ages. Each child has a personalised educational and health care plan and an individual intervention plan designed to help them thrive. As a mental health assistant, you will be part of ensuring that they can complete their academic work while also helping them navigate through their emotions and learn functional life skills, supporting independence. What you can expect as a Mental Health Assistant * Deliver specific interventions designed with the student’s needs and goals in mind. * De‑escalate meltdowns and potentially challenging behaviour. * Help children work through big emotions. * Create a safe and engaging learning environment. Qualities you need to be a successful Mental Health Assistant * Caring * Enthusiastic * Positive * Determined to make a difference * Proactive * Understand the importance of safeguarding. People who would benefit largely from this role will be psychology graduates as well as those with a background in sport, art, drama or music.
