Job descriptionLocum Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia UHL is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England, serving a regional, national, and international population. We serve the one million residents of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and specialist services over a much wider area. Applications are invited for enthusiastic and highly motivated Locum Consultants in Anaesthesia to join our team at Glenfield Hospital within the University Hospitals of Leicester. The Glenfield Hospital is renowned for Cardiac, Cardiology, ECMO and Thoracic services. In addition, elective and emergency theatres support vascular, urology, hepatobiliary, renal transplant and breast specialties. Glenfield Hospital, one of the largest cardiac centers in the country performing approximately 1000 cases a year, is a tertiary referral centre for complex aortic surgery, on and off pump grafts, valve surgeries including a mini‑mitral service and adult congenital cardiac disease. The case mix is complex and reviewed by an MDT team consisting of surgeons, anaesthetists and intensivists. MDT discussions are supported by high risk assessment clinics in both cardiac surgery and cardiology. This is a full‑time post for 12 months; many of our previous post holders have proceeded to a substantive position within the Trust. Responsibilities * Provide Consultant Anaesthetic cover for Cardiac and Cardiology anaesthesia, elective and emergency surgery at UHL including pre‑operative assessment and post‑operative care. * Participate in an Anaesthetic On‑Call Rota and/or weekend emergency or trauma cover. * Support the provision of consultant‑delivered peri‑operative care and a high‑quality anaesthetic service, with a positive attitude towards flexible working. * Supervise and train junior Anaesthetists. * Work with the acute pain team to provide safe and effective post‑operative analgesia to patients. * Take part in pre‑assessment and high‑risk clinics. * Teach post‑graduate and undergraduate medical staff, conduct research and assist with administration. * Collaborate with the Clinical Governance team to enhance patient safety. * Provide specialist high‑risk anaesthesia outpatient clinic work and participate in the Cardiothoracic Consultant Anaesthetist non‑resident on‑call rota. * Support the Consultant‑delivered Peri‑operative Medicine Service. * Work flexibly to cover the workload and for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences. * Participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with other Consultants in the department, CMG and local GPs and commissioners within the local CCGs. * Supervise and manage junior medical staff, observing local employment and human resource policies and procedures. * Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contribute to undergraduate, post‑graduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally. * Participate in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and other CPD activities; attendance at audit and governance meetings is mandatory. * Maintain professional standards in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice and current quality initiatives within the area of work. * Respond in a timely fashion to legitimate requests from Trust officers, including investigations of incidents or complaints. * Undertake Trust Corporate and Directorate specific induction and competency programmes appropriate to role. * Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) to revalidate, including annual appraisal and statutory mandatory training. #J-18808-Ljbffr
