Paralegal - Insurance Litigation

Department: CSG - Property (Insurance / Damage / Recoveries / Subsidence) Location: Birmingham We are delighted to announce that we are looking for Paralegals to join us in Birmingham on a permanent basis. We are looking for Paralegals to join our specialist insurance litigation teams at CSG. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your legal skills, knowledge and career in across our Triage, Motor Recoveries and Property Recoveries teams. About the teams * Our Triage team is key for direct client contact and preliminary assessment of claim prospects. * Motor Recoveries and Property Recoveries will allow you to develop your technical ability across a number of perils: RTA, impact, escape of water, escape of oil, product liability, defective premises, accidental damage, fire, contribution or enforcement. * A recovery claim is challenged on a number of grounds including liability, causation and quantum. As part of the small claim centre of excellence, you will progress your own cases through pre-action and litigation. As part of the recoveries (DA) team, you will handle your own caseload of Fast & Multi-Track matters, including liability disputes and a variety of litigated and pre‑litigated work. Joining our teams will give you the opportunity to build on your experience, legal knowledge and career within a supportive team and an ambitious firm. This role will be situated in Birmingham, where you will be asked to come into the office 5 times a week during your probation period. After successfully passing probation you may move to a hybrid working pattern. What you will do? As a Paralegal at CSG you are expected to provide a timely, professional and high‑quality service to our clients in the management of pre‑litigated and litigated recovery cases. * Screen matters for prospects and liaise with clients upon receipt of instructions. * Review instructions and provide client advice on case prospects. * Be responsible for a varied caseload of pre‑litigated and litigated work. * Assess liability and quantum and develop an appropriate strategy for the case. * Resolve claims through negotiation and litigation within client service standards. * Instruct experts and counsel, draft Witness Statements and other Court documents. * Maintain contact with our clients and their Customers whilst proactively managing their expectations. Who you are We are happy to hear from graduates and those with customer service or retail experience who are team players and have the passion for learning. We’d also like to hear from Paralegals who may already have experience working in a legal environment. * Prioritisation and Organisation Skills – the ability to structure your time well, prioritise work effectively and recognise when to ask for help. * Interpersonal skills – communication skills to liaise with clients, intermediaries and colleagues on the phone and in person. * Analytical skills – The ability to critically look at factual evidence, identify key legal arguments and apply the same. * Commercial sense – The ability to know the principle or law but also know when it is worth pursuing it. * Resilience – The ability to stand their ground in a telephone negotiation and to receive feedback. * Commitment and enthusiasm – with a professional attitude. * Alignment with the Firm’s Cultural Principles (Clear, Creative, Determined and Supportive).
