Job description

HR Assistant Officer

We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented HR Assistant Officer to join our busy and supportive HR team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to grow a long-term career in Human Resources, building solid foundations while contributing to meaningful HR initiatives across the organisation.

In this role, you will provide comprehensive support across the full employee lifecycle, offering first-line HR guidance to employees and managers. You will ensure HR processes and documentation are accurate, timely, and aligned with company policies, statutory requirements, and best practice. Experience working within an HR environment is essential.

This position is based at our Great Yarmouth offices and reports directly to the Head of HR.

First-Line HR Support

  • Support disciplinary investigations where needed.
  • Provide guidance to managers on performance improvement plans.
  • Monitor probation reviews and offer support to line managers.
  • Assist with annual appraisal data and reporting.
  • Manage the shared HR inbox, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Prepare HR documentation, including contract amendments and reference letters.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes, including arranging exit interviews.
  • Maintain accurate employee files and HR system data.
  • Provide people metrics to support internal reporting and business requirements.
  • Review, document and investigate sickness absence in line with policy.
  • Monitor absence triggers and notify/advise managers accordingly.
  • Process statutory leave including maternity, paternity and other types of leave.
  • Manage employee benefit schemes including eye care vouchers, childcare vouchers and recognition programmes.
  • Process internal award nominations and payments.
  • Support “recommend a friend” referral schemes.
  • Prepare employment contracts and ensure accurate processing of new starters, internal moves and leavers.
  • Manage system access, set-ups and ID requirements.
  • Support pay and contractual change processes.
  • Support the preparation of the monthly HR Metrics Pack.
  • Assist with annual statutory reporting such as Gender Pay Gap data.
  • Support ad-hoc HR reporting requests.
  • Update HR policies and procedures on internal systems.
  • Support audit preparations and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to HR initiatives that focus on employee engagement and wellbeing.

About You

Qualifications

  • CIPD Level 3 HR Support (desirable but not essential)

Experience

  • Strong administrative skills using IT systems and software, ideally gained within HR.
  • Experience working with employees and line managers and supporting with HR advice
  • Previous experience in a commercial business environment.
