The Opportunity Nottingham is a city with a prestigious scientific lineage, from the invention of the MRI to its current status as a "Science City" with thriving biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. We are seeking a dynamic and versatile Science Teacher to join a high-achieving faculty. In this role, you will inspire a new generation of inquisitive minds, utilizing the city’s rich heritage of innovation to explore the biological, chemical, and physical principles that govern our world. The Department You will join a collaborative team of specialists who work across a suite of modern, purpose-built laboratories designed for high-impact practical learning. The department follows a rigorous, inquiry-based curriculum that encourages students to think like scientists, from the initial hypothesis through to data analysis and evaluation. We are equipped with university-standard apparatus and digital data-logging technology to ensure that practical work remains at the heart of the student experience. The faculty maintains strong links with the University of Nottingham and BioCity, providing students with unique insights into the practical applications of science in modern research and industry. Practical Leadership: Planning and executing safe, engaging practical lessons that meet the requirements of the "Required Practical's" and foster a genuine love for scientific discovery. Diagnostic Assessment: Using data-driven insights to identify student misconceptions and tailoring your teaching to ensure all learners make exceptional progress. STEM Enrichment: Leading extracurricular activities, such as Science Club or the CREST Awards, and coordinating visits to regional science centres and innovation hubs. The Successful Candidate We are looking for a practitioner who can bring complex scientific theories to life with clarity and enthusiasm. Requirements include: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in a core Science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics). Technical Proficiency: A firm grasp of the secondary science curriculum and the ability to teach across all three disciplines at Key Stage 3. Safety Consciousness: A total commitment to classroom safety and a thorough understanding of CLEAPSS guidelines for laboratory work. Effective Communication: The ability to explain abstract concepts—from atomic structure to metabolic pathways—in a way that is accessible and exciting for a diverse student body. Why Join Us? A school that treats Science as a core pillar of academic success, with high levels of student engagement and attainment. Access to specialized professional development focused on the latest pedagogical research and practical science techniques. The opportunity to work in Nottingham—a vibrant, historic city offering a high quality of life, legendary cultural sites, and excellent transport links. A supportive, professional environment where staff wellbeing and collaborative planning are prioritized.
