About the team

You'll be joining a collaborative and inclusive Technology team that plays a key role in delivering high‑quality data, via reliable and secure software services for Ordnance Survey and our customers.

Our Technology teams are responsible for:

  • Building and maintaining scalable software products and services using modern engineering practices

  • Working on nationally significant platforms and services that are used across Great Britain

  • Collaborating across OS and with external partners to deliver value efficiently

  • Exploring new tools, technologies and engineering practices to continually improve delivery

We keep how we work simple and clear, so everyone can contribute and move forward together.

About the role

These roles are an opportunity to make a genuine contribution to Ordnance Survey's mission. You'll design, build and maintain Cloud infrastructure components in the Microsoft Azure platform, using iterative delivery approaches, while helping to improve engineering standards and supporting other engineers.

In the role, you will:

  • Configure, deploy and maintain Cloud infrastructure, to ensure our systems - both internal and customer-facing are running effectively

  • Apply and promote best practice engineering patterns to optimise delivery

  • Ensure our systems are secure, robust and well‑tested

  • Support and operate services in production, identifying and resolving issues

  • Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver valuable outcomes

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of tools, processes and ways of working

  • Support and mentor other engineers in your area of expertise

We aim to provide a realistic picture of the role, the challenges involved and the impact you can have.

What we're looking for

We're looking for people who can demonstrate the skills and experience needed for this role and who aligns with our principles.

You'll bring:

  • Experience in configuring, deploying and maintaining Cloud infrastructure in the Microsoft Azure platform

  • The ability to apply best practice patterns and improve ways of working

  • Experience building secure, well‑tested and maintainable software

  • Strong problem‑solving skills, including diagnosing and resolving production issues

  • The ability to collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with others

  • Experience supporting or mentoring colleagues within a technical environment

  • A thoughtful, inclusive and professional approach to your work

Tools, systems or technologies

We are looking for people who already have a good understanding of the technologies we use. Depending on the team you join, you will work with a selection of the following:

  • Azure cloud technologies:

    • App Services

    • Virtual Machines

    • Storage Accounts

    • Key Vaults

    • Entra ID

    • Managed Identity

    • Azure SQL

  • Azure DevOps functionality:

    • Git code repositories

    • CI/CD pipelines (YAML and Classic)

    • ARM/Bicep templates

  • Languages to support the configuration and deployment of Azure infrastructure, such as Python or PowerShell

The Rewards

We want you to love what you do and feel supported to do your best work.

Our benefits include:

  • Competitive salary and pension (OS contribute up to 12.07%)

  • Performance‑related bonus (where applicable)

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing with service)

  • Enhanced family leave, including paid partner leave

  • Hybrid and flexible working options

  • Learning and development support, coaching and mentoring

  • Free subscription to OS Maps and access to wellbeing support

  • Volunteering leave and matched fundraising

Location & Working Pattern

We embrace a hybrid working model at OS, because we believe in flexibility and balance. You'll be based at our fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire, where you'll spend 50% of your working week collaborating face-to-face with colleagues. It's all about combining the best of both worlds connection and autonomy to help you thrive.
