Job overview

Senior Clinical Trials Pharmacist - Band 8a (Permanent)
Pharmacy Shared Services – Based at Royal London Hospital with rotation to Whipps Cross and Newham University Hospital with future rotation into the Clinical Research Facility

The pharmacy clinical trials service at Barts Health has seen significant investment over the last few years and the evolving team of pharmacists, technicians and assistants manage an ever-expanding portfolio of commercial and non-commercial clinical trials. Due to additional funding being made available, there is an excellent opportunity for a pharmacist to develop their skills across multiple sites, encompassing a wide range of trials at the largest recruiting Trust for commercial trials in the country. In the last 5 years we have significantly improved the service we provide, and have one of the best staff satisfaction results in the Trust.

Main duties of the job

You will manage an excellent trials team at the Royal London hospital (RLH), Whipps Cross University Hospital (WX) and Newham University Hospital (NUH) sites and will have a portfolio of trials to set up and monitor. You will also be involved in continuous improvement project work associated with service development and have opportunities to train junior staff, develop your managerial skills and enhance your regulatory knowledge. There are a lot of improvements being made to the service, including a state of the art Clinical Research facility at RLH, complete with a satellite trials pharmacy, and expansion into ever more ATIMP trials.

Working for our organisation

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment.

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates as they are underrepresented within Barts Health at this band.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical pharmacy experience, as well as managerial experience is also desirable. The applicant must be efficient, organised, forward thinking and able to work as a team and autonomously.
