Job description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

The Opportunity

Liverpool is a city of scientific world-firsts—from the pioneering work of the School of Tropical Medicine to its current leadership in infectious disease research and sustainable maritime engineering. We are seeking an intellectually curious and ambitious Science Teacher to join an Ofsted-rated 'Outstanding' secondary school. In this role, you will work within a center of academic excellence, utilizing the city's rich heritage of clinical and industrial innovation to inspire the next generation of researchers, medics, and engineers.

The Department & Standard

  • You will be part of an elite Science faculty where "Outstanding" is the daily expectation and student attainment consistently ranks in the top percentiles of the North West.

  • The department operates in state-of-the-art laboratories, supported by a highly skilled technical team and equipped for advanced practical work across all three disciplines.

  • As an "Outstanding" setting, the department leads the way in research-informed pedagogy, employing sophisticated retrieval models and cognitive science to ensure students master complex abstract theories.

  • We maintain strong partnerships with the University of Liverpool and the Knowledge Quarter (KQ Liverpool), providing students with pathways to world-class higher education and professional scientific practice.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Exemplary Instruction: Delivering high-challenge Science lessons across Key Stage 3 and your specialist discipline at Key Stage 4 (GCSE), fostering a culture of rigorous inquiry and evidence-based reasoning.

  2. Practical Excellence: Leading sophisticated practical investigations that go beyond the required curriculum, teaching students the precision and ethics required for high-level laboratory work.

  3. Curriculum Innovation: Contributing to a "future-proof" curriculum that incorporates contemporary breakthroughs, such as CRISPR gene editing, renewable energy systems, and quantum physics.

  4. Data-Driven Success: Utilizing the school’s advanced tracking systems to provide pinpoint feedback, ensuring every student—regardless of their starting point—makes exceptional progress.

  5. STEM Leadership: Coordinating extracurricular initiatives, such as the Crest Awards or university-led masterclasses, to stretch the most ambitious young scientists.

The Successful Candidate We are looking for a subject authority with a relentless drive for excellence and a passion for scientific discovery. Requirements include:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.

  • Proven Track Record: Evidence of consistently delivering top-tier learning outcomes and a deep understanding of the GCSE assessment frameworks.

  • Reflective Practice: A teacher who thrives on professional dialogue and is committed to continuous growth within a high-performance environment.

  • Inspirational Authority: The ability to translate complex phenomena into tangible insights that resonate with students’ lives and future global challenges.

Why Join Us?

  • The chance to work in an "Outstanding" environment where student behaviour is exemplary and the pursuit of knowledge is celebrated by the entire community.

  • Unrivalled professional development pathways, including leadership opportunities and collaboration with lead practitioners across the city.

  • The opportunity to work in Liverpool—a vibrant, culturally iconic city offering a high quality of life, a world-class waterfront, and a central role in the UK’s scientific future.

  • A prestigious professional community that values intellectual rigor, creativity, and the holistic development of every student.

How to Apply

Please submit your current CV and a brief statement on how you use practical experimentation to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application.
