What you’ll do:
The purpose of your role is to ensure the delivery of a safe, legally compliant and cost-efficient transport operation within a Hub environment. You will focus on following all recognised transport systems and processes. You will provide strategic guidance, in conjunction with the Head of Transport, in the identification and development of new systems and processes to meet the changing needs of the business. You will manage and develop internal staff, maintain and develop external customer relationships and deliver a first-class service to our internal customers and external clients. You will be responsible for the strategic deployment of all peak related labour and resource in line with business volumetric projections.
Key Role Responsibilities:
- Provide operational and strategic support to ensure the success of the overall 24-hour shift planning performance, compliance, client service levels, and health and safety.
- Ensuring the multi-channel Transport operation despatches the required parcels through primary network daily in peak periods and up to B2C collections weekly.
- Manage the strategic deployment of tractor units, trailers and driver shifts per day during peak trading periods to successfully meet all business and finance related key performance indicators
- Leading and managing a team of Operations Managers to ensure optimised driving styles deliver best-in-class fuel consumption using Isotrak vehicle telemetry and coaching and feedback of driver teams.
- Provide operational and strategic support with all operational costs and performance reports and be able to demonstrate strong cost leadership and advanced commercial acumen.
- Provide operational and strategic support in the development of a peak plan in line with forecasted volume projections and or any required market changes to meet financial and resourcing needs.
- Owning the annual peak plan across your Hub, ensuring appropriate planning, flexibility and capacity for volume growth are taken into consideration and risks are mitigated through detailed plans that deliver network capacity, service, people plans, compliance, and cost control.
- Promoting and driving consistency to ensure the delivery of excellent operational standards.
- Carrying out regular individual ’s performance reviews and team meetings to create an environment for strategic development and growth within your direct reports.
- H&S and quality audits including risk assessments and safe systems of work in all Transport areas.
- Preparing detailed shift reports, root causing failed KPI’s supported evidence and an action plan to improve.
- Supporting Commercial teams with the onboarding of new clients, ensuring collection requests are achievable and are included in our current schedules to ensure we optimise the profitability of those clients.
- Promoting and driving consistency to ensure the delivery of excellent operational standards.
- Lead by example in creating a high-performance people orientated culture within the function that thinks inside the box.

- Previous Operational Transport Management experience gained within a similar environment
- Leading large teams of people.
- Experience of using cutting-edge Transport management systems and vehicle telemetry
- Experience of delivering presentations and reports to senior stakeholders and leaders
- Experience of cross-functional working
- Strong influencing skills across functions
- Ability to act on own initiative to exploit opportunities and improve performance
- Ability to project management
- Stakeholder management – able to influence senior stakeholders up to Director level.
- Able to present detailed information and concepts in written reports or presentation slides
- Able to matrix manage – ensuring requirements, deadlines, actions, etc are completed by people without any direct management authority
