Job descriptionSenior Systems Engineer Salary: Up to £80,000 per annum Location: Based near Addlestone, Surrey Hours: 37.5 hours per week Type: Permanent Are you a highly experienced Systems Engineer with a background in defence, communications, or complex integrated systems? We’re supporting a specialist engineering business in the defence sector in their search for a Senior Systems Engineer / System Design Authority to lead major technical projects involving specialist sensors, electronics, firmware, software, and signal processing systems. This is a senior-level opportunity where you will take ownership of the full system design lifecycle, leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams to deliver complex solutions to high-profile customers. Security / Eligibility Requirements – Please Read Before Applying Due to the nature of the work and security clearance requirements, applicants must meet the following criteria: * Must hold a UK passport * No dual nationality due to clearance restrictions * Ideally British-born, although this may be considered on a case-by-case basis * Must be eligible to obtain high-level UK Security Clearance / DV clearance Senior Systems Engineer Benefits * Salary up to £80,000 depending on experience, Paid overtime or time off in lieu * Flexible working hours with core hours in place, Competitive employer pension contribution, Private medical care, Holiday closedown over Christmas * Training, development and career progression opportunities * Salary sacrifice schemes, Company laptop / mobile / home office equipment * Relocation package available for the right candidate The Role As the senior technical authority on major programmes, you will be responsible for: * Leading the system design, implementation, integration, testing, and customer acceptance of complex engineering systems * Acting as System Design Authority across multiple defence communications and sensor-based projects * Providing technical leadership to multi-disciplinary teams across hardware, software, firmware, and mechanical engineering * Conducting engineering design reviews internally and with customers * Liaising with MOD, customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders * Supporting prototype development, research projects, and funded studies * Producing technical reports, papers, and presentations * Supporting the commercial/business development team with technical proposals and solutions * Driving innovation and continuous improvement across engineering processes * Mentoring and developing junior engineers What We’re Looking For * Extensive experience within Systems Engineering in a defence or highly regulated environment * Proven experience delivering complex system design, integration, and test projects * Experience within communications systems, sensor systems, navigation, or maritime systems would be highly advantageous * Strong technical leadership and project ownership experience * Ability to communicate complex technical information to stakeholders at all levels * Engineering Degree or equivalent * Full UK driving licence * Ability to travel within the UK and occasionally internationally This is an excellent opportunity to join a business working on genuinely cutting-edge defence and communication technologies, where you can make a real impact and play a key role in major long-term programmes.
