Community Development Officer for The Empower Project Job Title Community Development Officer for The Empower Project Location Broughshane House, 70 Main Street, Broughshane Hours 35 hours per week with flexible options available Salary £26,320.14 Responsible To Executive Director for Community Programmes Annual Leave 38 days paid, including bank holidays Contract Term Fixed term until 31st March 2027, with potential for further opportunities subject to funding Job Purpose The purpose of this role is to support and empower local older peoples community groups from Mid and East Antrim by collaborating with them to co-design action plans to enhance their capacity through targeted interventions, and promote good governance, sustainability, and succession planning. The role involves identifying and addressing training needs, facilitating age-friendly training programmes, and fostering volunteering opportunities to strengthen community engagement. Additionally, the role supports groups in securing funding, managing budgets, and organising activities that promote the wellbeing of older people. By providing regular updates, monitoring progress, and distributing a monthly e-zine, the role ensures effective communication, resource sharing, and the sustained development of vibrant, self-sufficient older peoples groups. Key Responsibilities Community Development & Engagement To work with Older Peoples Groups in a co-design process to develop action plans. To develop the capacity of existing local Older Peoples community groups through a range of interventions. To support Older Peoples community groups to access and facilitate activities which support the wellbeing of local Older People. To promote and encourage volunteering opportunities for local Older People and match volunteers to local Older Peoples community groups. Capacity Building, Training & Sustainability To support the development of good governance, succession planning and sustainability for Older Peoples community groups. To identify the training needs of local Older Peoples community groups and provide appropriate, age-friendly training programmes, directly or via partner organisations. To identify and share funding opportunities and support Older Peoples groups to develop skills in applying for funding. Programme Management & Communications To provide regular written progress reports and ensure monitoring and evaluation is carried out in line with agreed specifications. To manage a project budget in line with agreed funding. To compile and distribute a monthly e-zine with relevant information on support, opportunities and training. Supervision and Support You will report to the Executive Director for Community Programmes and work as part of a supportive and collaborative team. You will be expected to complete regular tasks with initiative, attention to detail, and care. We are seeking a friendly and enthusiastic individual who can work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines and support Agewells mission. Work Complexity The role requires a diverse range of skills and the ability to manage time and resources effectively. It is central to Agewells success and requires initiative, enthusiasm, and commitment. Confidentiality The post holder must maintain appropriate professional confidentiality at all times. Person Specification Qualifications and Experience A recognised 3rd level qualification, with 1 years experience of working in the field of health and / or community development; or 3 years full-time experience of working in the field of health and / or community development. Skills and Abilities Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Ability to engage, support and work with community groups. Good organisational and project coordination skills. Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate activities or programmes. Knowledge of or ability to support training, funding and development needs. Competent in administration, reporting and information sharing. Circumstances Full driving licence and access to a car for business purposes, or access to a form of transport that will meet the travel requirements of the post. Ability to work evenings and weekends if required. To comply with all Agewell policies and procedures. Desirable Criteria Previous experience within a charity. Knowledge and understanding of service provision for older people provided by statutory and voluntary agencies including Agewell, local older people groups and health & social primary and secondary care services.
