Job description
A well-regarded secondary school in Chelmsford (Essex) is seeking a highly organised and detail-focused Finance Officer to join its supportive business and administration team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong finance and admin skills who enjoys working with systems, deadlines and accuracy—and who wants to play a key role in ensuring the school runs smoothly and responsibly. The school has clear routines, a professional working culture and strong safeguarding practice. Finance is managed carefully and transparently, and the finance function is respected as central to effective school operations. About the Role As Finance Officer , you will support day-to-day financial processes, ensuring transactions are accurate and records are maintained to a high standard. Responsibilities typically include: Processing purchase orders, invoices and supplier payments Maintaining accurate financial records and documentation for audit purposes Supporting budget monitoring and producing routine reports where required Managing income processing (trips, payments, other income streams) Liaising with suppliers and resolving queries professionally Supporting procurement processes and value-for-money procedures Supporting finance systems administration and spreadsheet tracking Handling confidential information securely and professionally Key Information Location: Chelmsford, Essex Start Date: ASAP / next term (or by agreement) Contract: Full-time, permanent (or as agreed) Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience What the School is Looking For Experience in finance administration, accounts, purchasing or a similar role Strong attention to detail and confidence working with numbers and systems Excellent organisation and ability to manage deadlines consistently Professional communication skills when liaising with colleagues and suppliers Confidence using spreadsheets and finance/database-style systems Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding in education School-based finance experience is desirable but not essential for a strong candidate with transferable experience.
