Job description
A prestigious and academically ambitious secondary school in York is seeking an intellectually curious Physics ECT to join its flourishing Science department this September. This is a rare opportunity to teach a high-demand subject in a school that values research-informed pedagogy, mathematical precision, and critical thinking. As an ECT, you will benefit from a structured and supportive induction period, including weekly mentor meetings and opportunities to lead on Physics-specific workshops within the local school partnership. The Role Teaching Physics at KS4 (GCSE) and contributing to the KS3 General Science curriculum. Delivering complex theoretical content including Electromagnetism, Particle Physics, and Astrophysics. Supporting students in mastering mathematical applications within Science and experimental design. Planning lessons that stimulate high-level debate and develop analytical problem-solving skills. Preparing students for external examinations through targeted feedback and modeling of past-paper excellence. Engaging with the school’s academic enrichment programme, such as the Astronomy Club or Engineering Challenge. Participating in the statutory ECT induction and whole-school professional development sessions. The Ideal Candidate Will Have Currently working towards or recently completed Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). A strong academic background with a degree in Physics or an Engineering-related field. A firm grasp of AQA or Edexcel GCSE and A-Level specifications. The ability to simplify abstract concepts for students at various stages of learning. A passion for scientific research and a commitment to maintaining high academic standards. Excellent communication skills and a reflective, proactive approach to teaching.
