Job description
A prestigious and high-achieving secondary school in York is seeking an intellectually curious and passionate History ECT to join its thriving Humanities department this September. This is an exceptional opportunity for a newly qualified teacher to begin their career in a city steeped in heritage, working within a school that values historical enquiry and critical analysis. The school is committed to a world-class ECT induction, providing a dedicated mentor and access to a wealth of primary source archives and local museum partnerships to help bring the past to life. The Role Teaching History across KS3 and KS4, with the potential to support A-Level classes in Year 2 of your induction. Delivering a broad and diverse curriculum ranging from Medieval England to 20th-century global conflicts. Planning lessons that develop students' abilities to evaluate evidence, analyze interpretations, and construct arguments. Supporting pupils with GCSE examination preparation and the mastering of essay-writing techniques. Encouraging a passion for local history and heritage through fieldwork and museum visits. Contributing to the school’s academic enrichment programme, such as the History Society or Debate Club. Engaging in whole-school CPD and the statutory ECT induction sessions and observations. The Ideal Candidate Will Have Currently working towards or recently completed Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). A strong academic background with a degree in History (2:1 or higher preferred). Excellent subject knowledge and a passion for making historical narratives accessible to all learners. High expectations for pupil engagement, classroom behaviour, and individual progress. A collaborative mindset and a willingness to learn from expert practitioners. A proactive, organised, and reflective approach to teaching.
