Job description
A wonderful secondary school in Northampton is seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and persistent Attendance Officer to join its pastoral team immediately. This is a key role focused on supporting pupil wellbeing and achievement by ensuring high levels of attendance and punctuality across the student body. You will act as the bridge between the school and the home, working with families to identify and remove barriers to education while upholding the school's high expectations for engagement. Key Responsibilities Daily Monitoring: Using the school’s MIS system ( Arbor or SIMS ) to monitor daily attendance and identify students who are absent without a valid reason. Parental Liaison: Making first-day calls to parents and carers, conducting home visits where necessary, and holding attendance meetings to discuss concerns and solutions. Intervention Planning: Working with the Heads of Year and the SENCo to implement targeted attendance interventions for "Persistently Absent" (PA) students. Data Analysis: Producing weekly and termly attendance reports for the Senior Leadership Team, identifying trends and celebrating improved attendance. Safeguarding: Playing a key role in the safeguarding team by tracking "Children Missing Education" (CME) and ensuring all absence is accounted for in line with DfE statutory guidance. Legal Administration: Preparing documentation for the Local Authority regarding fixed penalty notices or legal action when attendance does not improve through internal support. The Ideal Candidate Will Have Previous experience in an attendance, pastoral, or social work role within an education setting. Strong knowledge of current Department for Education (DfE) attendance legislation and safeguarding requirements. Proficiency in school MIS systems and the ability to interpret complex data. A professional, empathetic, yet firm approach when dealing with difficult conversations and resistant families. Salary Competitive salary (Dependent on experience) Application To apply for this Attendance Officer position in Northampton, please submit your CV.
