Job descriptionJob Title: Operations Manager Department: Operations Location: Cambridge Salary: £50,000-£65,000 Employment Type: Permanent Direct Reports: Operations Team & Field-Based Installation Teams Date: April 2026 Job Purpose This is a key leadership position within a growing renewable energy business, responsible for driving the day-to-day performance of the operations function and supporting the successful delivery of installation projects across the UK. The Operations Manager will act as the central link between office-based teams, site teams, and senior leadership, ensuring all projects are delivered efficiently, compliantly, and to a high standard. This role requires a proactive, solutions-focused individual with strong organisational capability and a solid understanding of construction and renewable technologies, able to balance technical oversight with people leadership and commercial awareness. Key Responsibilities Take full ownership of daily operations across installation and support teams Drive efficiency across workflows, ensuring projects move smoothly from sale through to commissioning Manage work in progress, maintaining visibility across all live jobs Lead, develop, and mentor the operations team through structured 1:1s, reviews, and ongoing support Build a high-performing team culture, identifying and developing future talent Plan and manage resources effectively, including scheduling, holidays, and absence management Act as a key escalation point for operational and technical issues, supporting resolution where required Work closely with site teams to ensure all pre-installation requirements are in place Ensure all commissioning and compliance documentation is accurate and completed on time Develop strong technical knowledge across solar, heating, and wider renewable technologies Oversee stock control, procurement, and forecasting to support operational delivery Collaborate closely with Sales to ensure clear and accurate handovers Work alongside Finance to ensure all operational data supports invoicing and commercial processes Decision-Making Authority Responsible for day-to-day operational decision-making in line with business policies Authority over resource allocation, workflow prioritisation, and team management Input into wider operational strategy and business improvements Internal Relationships Sales Team: Ensure seamless project handovers and alignment on delivery Finance Team: Support accurate invoicing and commercial processes Head Office Functions: Collaborate on operational performance and strategy Installation Teams: Provide leadership, coordination, and ongoing support External Relationships Customers: Maintain a high level of service and communication throughout project delivery Suppliers: Manage procurement, stock flow, and delivery timelines Regulatory & External Bodies: Ensure compliance with industry standards and requirements Qualifications & Education Essential: Minimum 5 GCSEs (A–C) or equivalent Proficient in Microsoft Office Desirable: Electrical or Plumbing qualification Experience within renewable energy (Solar PV, Heat Pumps, etc.) Experience with systems such as HubSpot, Odoo, or Xero Experience Essential: 3+ years' experience in an operations management role 3+ years leading and managing teams Strong understanding of construction, installations, or renewable environments Desirable: Background in electrical, plumbing, or renewable technologies Technical Competencies Strong operational planning and coordination skills Commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery Ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment Confident using CRM and operational systems Strong understanding of industry standards and processes Full UK driving licence Behavioural Competencies Professional, credible, and solutions-focused Strong leadership with the ability to motivate and develop teams Calm under pressure with excellent problem-solving ability Highly organised with strong attention to detail Effective communicator across all levels of the business Proactive and self-driven, with a hands-on approach Ability to drive continuous improvement and challenge processes Strong emotional intelligence and team awareness
