Job description
A high-attaining academy in Wolverhampton is seeking a meticulous and proactive Science Technician to join their thriving Science Department. This is a vital operational role, providing the high-level technical support required for rigorous practical investigations across KS3, KS4, and A-Level. Start Date: ASAP (Immediate start preferred) Contract: Full-time, Permanent Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (08:30 – 16:30) Term Structure: Term-Time Only + 1 week (40 weeks total) The School Environment Science is a "leading light" of the curriculum here. As a technician, you will be treated as a valued peer and a subject specialist in your own right. You will work within a supportive community that prioritizes professional trust and humanity. The department features modern, high-spec laboratories and a dedicated prep room where you will have the autonomy to manage resources and equipment. It is a safe, inspiring workplace where staff work with a sense of purposeful good humour and a commitment to collective success. Key Responsibilities Prepare and set up apparatus, chemicals, and equipment for practical science lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment, ensuring all health and safety protocols (CLEAPSS) are strictly followed. Manage chemical stock levels, including the safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials. Support teaching staff during practical demonstrations to ensure technical precision and student safety. Routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure technical mastery of the department's resources. Essential Requirements Previous School Experience: It is essential that you have worked as a Science Technician in a UK school or college laboratory setting. Technical Expertise: A degree or relevant qualification in a scientific discipline (specialism in Biology or Chemistry is highly desirable). Right to Work: You must possess the Right to Work in the UK . Please note that the school cannot provide sponsorship for this role. Professional Standard: A meticulous approach to data integrity, safety, and departmental organisation. Salary and Benefits Salary Range: £24,500 – £28,000 (Actual salary pro-rata for Term-Time Only). Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). Use of the school’s on-site fitness facilities and staff wellbeing programme. Bespoke professional development grants for further technical training. A "no-email" policy after 6:00 PM to ensure a healthy work-life balance.
