Job description
The Opportunity Worcester is a city with a distinguished academic heritage, home to high-performing academies and historic independent institutions. We are seeking a precise, communicative, and highly organized Admissions Officer to join a thriving school office. In this role, you will be the face of the school for prospective families, managing the critical journey from initial inquiry to the first day of term while ensuring all processes remain legally compliant and parent-focused. The Role & Department You will work at the heart of the school’s administrative hub, reporting directly to the School Business Manager or the Head of Admissions. The role is a unique blend of high-level administration, data management, and public relations. You will manage the entire pupil lifecycle—from the initial inquiry and school tour to the final enrolment and induction. You will act as the primary liaison between the school and the Worcestershire County Council Admissions Service, ensuring all local authority protocols are met. Core Responsibilities Inquiry Management: Responding to all telephone and email inquiries regarding school places, providing clear information on the school’s ethos, curriculum, and admissions criteria. Data Coordination: Maintaining the school’s Management Information System (MIS) such as SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom, ensuring all pupil data is accurate, up-to-date, and GDPR compliant. Appeals & Compliance: Coordinating the school’s appeals process and ensuring that all admissions are carried out in strict accordance with the School Admissions Code and local authority guidelines. Events & Tours: Organizing and leading school tours and open evenings, providing prospective parents and students with an engaging and informative experience. Reporting: Producing regular reports for the Senior Leadership Team and Governors regarding enrolment trends, waiting lists, and projected numbers for future academic years. The Successful Candidate We are looking for a professional who can balance meticulous attention to detail with a warm, empathetic manner. Requirements include: Experience: Previous experience in a school admissions role or a high-level administrative/customer-facing position is essential. Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex admissions processes to parents clearly and calmly. Tech Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) and experience with school-specific databases (MIS). Organisation: The ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously, particularly during the high-pressure periods of the academic transition cycle. Why Join Us? A role that offers a high degree of responsibility and the opportunity to shape the first impressions of our school. Access to a supportive administrative team and a professional development program focused on data protection and educational law. The chance to work in a historic and beautiful cathedral city with a strong sense of community and excellent transport links across the West Midlands. A sense of achievement in helping families find the right educational path for their children.
