Contract: PermanentSalary: Offering up to £55,000 per annum including car allowance depending on experience and skillsAre you ready to take your fire alarm expertise to the next level?
We are currently recruiting for two Fire Alarm Engineers who will play a key role in safeguarding Thames Water’s critical infrastructure. This is your chance to step into a diverse, hands‑on role where no two days are the same—travelling across sites, solving technical challenges, elevating safety standards, and shaping the future of fire alarm installations. With dedicated in‑house training and a clear pathway into a Project
Engineer position, this is more than a job—it’s a real opportunity to grow, lead, and make a visible impact.
What you will be doing as a Fire Alarm Engineer
This role will lead to carrying out fire alarm risk assessments/requirements (HSP 12) upon request across many of Thames Water's sites.
In-house training will be provided to support the engineer to progress further towards a Project Engineer role, undertaking all aspects of Health & Safety management for your portfolio of projects. See below for full job requirements and expectations.
  • Site visits to assess the quality of contractors' work against all standards.

  • To advise and scope works with a contractor on resolving problems.
  • Carry out site fire alarm assessments/requirements to BS 5839-1.
  • Scoping/writing specification documents.

  • Communication and technical assistance to key stakeholders/customers.

  • We are looking for a Project Engineer located in the West London/Thames Valley area, covering Thames Water sites.
  • Required to travel to various sites each week. Please note that currently, some journeys could amount to an approximate 150-mile round trip.
Location
The role is office or site‑based for up to five days each week. We are seeking candidates located near our Mogden, Guildford, or Swindon sites, as the position supports South West London and nearby regions.

You’ll also travel to other Thames Water sites as needed, depending on project demands. As this is a mobile role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and your own vehicle.

A monthly car allowance is provided to support your travel.
Working Hours – Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.

To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
  • Have experience within a commercial and/or technical role.
  • FIA BS 5839-1 Fundamental or equivalent certification in Fire Alarm principles and standards.
  • Training or relevant work experience.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have your own transport.

  • Car Allowance £4,500 car allowance
  • 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service. (plus bank holidays)
