Job description
A well-regarded and high-achieving secondary school in Gloucester is seeking an enthusiastic and intellectually curious Sociology ECT to join its successful Social Sciences department this September. This is an excellent opportunity to teach a high-uptake subject in a school that values research-informed pedagogy, social awareness, and critical thinking. As an ECT, you will benefit from a structured induction period, including weekly mentor meetings and opportunities to observe expert practitioners within the Social Sciences faculty. The Role Teaching Sociology at KS4 (GCSE) and KS5 (A-Level). Planning and delivering engaging lessons covering the family, education, crime and deviance, and research methods. Supporting pupils with essay-writing skills, critical evaluation, and examination preparation. Promoting high standards of academic debate and enquiry in every lesson. Encouraging social awareness, empathy, and independence in theoretical and practical sessions. Monitoring pupil progress and using assessment data effectively to raise attainment at all levels. Participating in the statutory ECT induction sessions and professional development workshops. The Ideal Candidate Will Have Currently working towards or recently completed Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). A degree in Sociology or a related Social Science subject. A firm grasp of contemporary social issues and the ability to spark debate in the classroom. High expectations for pupil engagement, classroom behaviour, and academic progress. Excellent communication skills and a reflective, proactive approach to teaching. A professional, organised, and positive mindset toward departmental teamwork.
