Job description
A prestigious and academically ambitious secondary school in Plymouth is seeking an intellectually curious Maths ECT to join its high-performing Mathematics department this September. This is an exceptional opportunity for a mathematician to join a department that values problem-solving, logical reasoning, and academic excellence. The school provides a robust induction framework for Early Career Teachers, including weekly subject-specific mentoring and access to external professional development networks to refine your pedagogical skills. The Role Teaching Mathematics across KS3 and KS4, with the potential to support A-Level classes for the right candidate. Planning and delivering lessons that develop numeracy, logical reasoning, and mathematical fluency. Supporting pupils with examination preparation and mastering higher-tier GCSE content. Promoting high standards of mathematical communication and accuracy in student work. Encouraging confidence, resilience, and a genuine passion for problem-solving. Participating in the school’s Maths Challenge entries and whole-school numeracy initiatives. Engaging in the statutory ECT induction sessions and collaborative departmental planning. The Ideal Candidate Will Have Currently working towards or recently completed Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). A strong academic background with a degree in Mathematics or a related STEM field. The ability to break down complex mathematical concepts for learners of all abilities. High expectations for pupil engagement, classroom behaviour, and individual progress. A collaborative mindset and a willingness to learn from expert practitioners. A proactive, organised, and positive approach to teaching and learning.
