Job description
Location: Portsmouth Contract: Full-Time Start Date: September School Type: Mixed Secondary School Key Stages: KS3 & KS4 (KS5 available depending on experience) A mixed secondary school in Portsmouth is seeking a practical and creative Design Technology Teacher to join its Technology department from September . This is a strong opportunity for a teacher who enjoys delivering hands-on lessons and supporting students in developing real-world design and manufacturing skills. The department is well-used and valued within the school, with students engaging in a range of projects that encourage creativity, technical accuracy, and independent thinking. The Opportunity This role focuses on delivering engaging Design Technology lessons that combine creativity with technical knowledge. The successful candidate will teach across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 , supporting students as they develop practical skills in areas such as product design, resistant materials, or graphics, depending on your specialism. You will play an important role in helping students understand the design process — from planning and prototyping through to evaluation and final production. Lessons should encourage students to think critically, solve problems, and take pride in producing high-quality work. The school supports collaborative planning, meaning resources and lesson ideas are regularly shared across the department. Key Responsibilities at a Glance Deliver structured and engaging Design Technology lessons Prepare materials, tools, and resources for practical sessions Teach safe working practices within workshop environments Monitor student progress and provide clear feedback Support coursework preparation and controlled assessments Maintain equipment and ensure workshop safety standards The School Setting This mixed secondary school in Portsmouth maintains a structured learning environment where practical subjects are encouraged and valued.
