Job description
A forward-thinking secondary school with a strong sixth form provision in Swindon is seeking an engaging and knowledgeable Economics Teacher to join the department from September . This is an exciting opportunity to teach motivated students in a school where post-16 education is a major strength and academic ambition is strongly encouraged. The school has developed a reputation for supporting students in achieving strong outcomes at Key Stage 5, particularly in subjects that prepare learners for university pathways and careers in finance, business, and economics. The successful candidate will join a department that values clear teaching, strong subject knowledge, and the ability to connect classroom learning to real-world contexts. About the Role This position focuses primarily on teaching Economics at Key Stage 5 , with the possibility of supporting related subjects such as Business Studies at Key Stage 4 depending on experience. You will be responsible for delivering well-structured lessons that help students develop analytical thinking, numerical confidence, and a strong understanding of economic theory. Lessons should encourage debate, discussion, and critical thinking, helping students to explore economic issues such as markets, government policy, global trade, and financial systems. The department values teachers who can make Economics relevant and engaging by linking theory to current events and real-life case studies. You will also play a role in supporting students with coursework preparation, revision strategies, and exam readiness, ensuring that learners are well-prepared to achieve strong academic results. Key Responsibilities You will plan and deliver high-quality Economics lessons that meet curriculum requirements and support students in building confidence with complex economic concepts. Monitoring student progress will form an important part of the role, including providing constructive feedback and adapting teaching strategies to support individual needs. The role also involves working collaboratively with colleagues to develop curriculum materials and share teaching strategies. Participation in departmental meetings, parents’ evenings, and school events will be expected. There may also be opportunities to contribute to enrichment activities such as enterprise initiatives, university preparation sessions, or economics-focused clubs designed to extend student learning beyond the classroom. About the School This sixth form-focused secondary school in Swindon provides a structured academic environment where students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning. The sixth form is a key strength of the school, offering a wide range of academic subjects and preparing students for higher education and professional pathways. Staff benefit from a collaborative working culture and supportive leadership. The school values professional development and encourages teachers to expand their subject expertise and teaching practice. Facilities are modern and well-equipped, providing a strong foundation for delivering engaging and effective lessons. Who We Are Looking For The school is seeking a teacher with strong subject knowledge in Economics and a passion for supporting students at an advanced level of study. You should be confident delivering A-Level content and capable of presenting complex information in a clear and engaging way. Applications are welcomed from both experienced teachers and early career teachers with a relevant academic background in Economics or a related discipline. Strong communication skills, effective classroom management, and a commitment to student achievement will be important qualities for success. An interest in supporting enrichment activities or sixth form development initiatives would be an advantage. Interested in Applying? If you are interested in this Economics Teacher opportunity in Swindon and are available to start in September , please submit your CV for consideration. This is a full-time position offering the chance to work with motivated students in a school that values academic achievement and subject expertise.
