Resident Doctor - Critical Care

Location: Birmingham, The Harborne Hospital

Contract Type: Part-time (24 hrs per week)

Shifts: Monday to Friday nights only (8pm - 8am / 12hr Shifts) 24hr cover over the weekend.

Salary: Highly competitive, with opportunities for additional shifts via our internal Bank (locum)

The Harborne Hospital is a new private hospital in Birmingham, a partnership between HCA Healthcare UK and the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

It offers a comprehensive range of private medical and surgical services, including critical care, cancer care, cardiac care, and a full diagnostic imaging suite, located on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham campus.

While we are a Consultant Led Service, we believe in empowering our Resident Doctors, so your role could become expand as much as you wish. You'll have the chance to be involved in audits, projects and quality improvement initiatives alongside the opportunity to join a variety of internal networks. This could be to help steer the services you deliver, speaking up or patient satisfaction focus groups, clinical governance or MDT meetings. Giving you an opportunity to network with your peers, share best practice and expand your knowledge in an unrivalled setting.

The Role:

We're seeking experienced and motivated Resident Doctors in Critical Care to join our expert medical team. You'll work closely with Consultants and Specialist Nurses across our Level 3 Adult Critical Care Unit and general wards, ensuring that every patient receives exceptional, timely, and safe care.

What You'll Do:

  • Deliver high-quality medical care under the direction of the patient's named Consultant.

  • Diagnose, treat, and manage a range of acute and complex medical conditions.

  • Conduct physical examinations and request appropriate investigations.

  • Support Consultant-led decisions, ensuring smooth continuity of care.

  • Participate in ward rounds, assess new admissions, and review discharges.

  • Provide immediate medical support in emergencies, including leading on cardiac arrest calls.

  • Play an active role in pre- and post-operative care, clinical assessments, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

What you'll bring:

  • GMC Registration and License to Practice in the UK

  • Intensive Care Medicine training ST3 + (Critical Care and Anaesthesia)

  • Experience working in a level 3 Critical Care Adult Unit.
