Job description
Attendance Officer – thriving secondary school – Barking & Dagenham, London Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale School information: This is an 11–18 well-established, Outstanding Ofsted-rated secondary school in Barking and Dagenham , known for its exceptional pastoral care, strong leadership, and commitment to student success. The school has built a reputation for high attendance, excellent behaviour, and strong academic outcomes. Students are motivated, respectful, and well-supported, creating a calm and purposeful environment for learning. The school places a strong emphasis on safeguarding and attendance, recognising the critical role it plays in student achievement and wellbeing. The pastoral and support teams work collaboratively to ensure every student is supported to attend regularly and succeed. Role overview: As an Attendance Officer, you will play a key role in monitoring, improving, and maintaining high levels of student attendance. You will work closely with pastoral staff, families, and external agencies to ensure all students are supported effectively. Key responsibilities: Monitor daily attendance and punctuality across the school Follow up on absences promptly, including contacting parents/carers Maintain accurate attendance records and produce reports for senior leaders Identify patterns of absence and implement intervention strategies Work closely with Heads of Year and safeguarding teams Liaise with external agencies where necessary Support the school’s safeguarding and pastoral systems What the school is looking for: Experience working in a school or attendance-related role Strong understanding of safeguarding and attendance procedures Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to handle sensitive situations professionally Strong data management and organisational skills Resilient, proactive, and solution-focused approach Why join this school: Outstanding leadership and clear systems Strong pastoral support structure Excellent staff training and development Positive and inclusive school culture Opportunities for career progression within pastoral roles Application To apply, please send your CV as soon as possible.
