Job description
The Opportunity Cambridge is a global epicenter for scientific discovery and innovation, and our Independent College sits at the heart of this prestigious academic landscape. We are seeking a Chemistry Teacher who can inspire high-achieving, intellectually curious students. This role involves delivering the curriculum across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, fostering a deep understanding of atomic structure, chemical bonding, and organic synthesis in an environment where academic excellence is the norm. The Department You will work in professional-standard laboratories designed for advanced experimental work and small-group instruction. As an Independent College, we offer a flexible, enriched curriculum that allows teachers to move beyond the constraints of the standard national framework. The department is supported by expert technicians with experience in handling complex reagents and maintaining specialized equipment like spectrophotometers and titration workstations. We leverage our location by collaborating with University of Cambridge departments and local biotech firms for guest lectures, seminars, and laboratory visits. Core Responsibilities Planning and delivering high-level Chemistry lessons that challenge students to master both conceptual theory and complex mathematical applications. Leading sophisticated practical sessions, emphasizing the precision and safety required for advanced qualitative and quantitative analysis. Preparing students for success in GCSE and A-Level Chemistry, with a particular focus on developing the evaluative skills needed for top-tier university entrance. Mentoring students for national competitions such as the Chemistry Olympiad and the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge. Providing personalized academic support, taking advantage of smaller class sizes to ensure every student reaches their maximum potential. The Successful Candidate We are looking for a dedicated scholar-teacher with a passion for the molecular world. Requirements include: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent and a high-quality degree in Chemistry or a related field (e.g., Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering). A proven track record of supporting students to achieve A/A* grades at A-Level. Deep subject knowledge, including a strong grasp of organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry. The professional presence and communication skills necessary to engage and motivate highly ambitious students. Why Join Us? The chance to work with some of the brightest young minds in a setting that prioritizes academic freedom and scholarly pursuit. A bespoke professional development program focused on higher-education preparation and advanced subject pedagogy. A culture of professional autonomy where your expertise as a subject specialist is respected and encouraged. Situated in one of the world's most beautiful and historic university cities, offering an unparalleled quality of life and intellectual environment.
