Job description
The Opportunity Mansfield is a town with a proud industrial past and a bright future in the green energy and technology sectors. We are seeking a dedicated Science Teacher to join our ambitious secondary school. Our mission is to ignite a passion for discovery in our students, preparing them for the rapidly evolving scientific landscape of the 21st century. Whether you are a specialist in Physics, Chemistry, or Biology, this role offers the chance to work in a school that is deeply committed to academic rigor and the professional growth of its staff. The Science Department The Science department is a cornerstone of our curriculum, operating out of a suite of modern, well-equipped laboratories. We believe that Science is best learned through inquiry and hands-on experimentation. As such, we have invested heavily in high-quality apparatus and digital data-logging equipment to ensure that theory is always supported by practical evidence. You will join a diverse team of specialists and expert technicians who work collaboratively to deliver an engaging curriculum. The department is known for its supportive atmosphere, where resources are shared freely and peer-to-peer mentoring is a standard part of our practice. We have a growing uptake at A-Level, reflecting the high aspirations of our students and the quality of teaching within the faculty. Main Duties and Responsibilities As a Science Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in developing the scientific literacy of our learners. Your responsibilities will include: Instructional Excellence: Planning and delivering high-quality lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. You will be expected to teach all three sciences at GCSE level, ensuring students grasp the fundamental principles of energy, matter, and living systems. A-Level Specialism: For candidates with the relevant experience, there are opportunities to lead classes in your core specialism at Key Stage 5, preparing students for the transition to university or degree apprenticeships. Practical Innovation: Designing and managing safe, effective practical sessions. You will work closely with our technician team to bring the curriculum to life through experiments that challenge students to think like researchers. Assessment and Feedback: Implementing a robust system of formative and summative assessment. You will provide clear, actionable feedback that helps students understand their progress and identify their next steps for improvement. Curriculum Development: Contributing to the ongoing review and enhancement of our schemes of work, ensuring they remain relevant to contemporary scientific issues such as climate change, medical ethics, and technological advancement. Extracurricular Impact: Supporting the wider life of the school through STEM clubs, science fairs, and industry visits, helping students see the real-world applications of their classroom learning. Person Specification The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic subject advocate who can inspire students of all abilities. You should possess: Academic and Professional Credentials: A degree in a Science discipline and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs). Subject Versatility: The ability to teach across the three core sciences at Key Stage 3 and 4, with a deep mastery of your specific specialism for higher-level teaching. Pedagogical Skill: A toolkit of teaching strategies that allow you to differentiate effectively, ensuring that every student is appropriately challenged and supported. Communication and Rapport: The ability to build positive relationships with students, fostering a classroom environment based on mutual respect and a shared love of learning. Drive for Continuous Improvement: A proactive approach to your own professional development and a willingness to contribute to the success of the wider school community. Why Join Our School? Working in our Mansfield school provides a rewarding professional experience within a supportive and forward-thinking environment. Benefits include: Professional Investment: A comprehensive CPD programme, including internal coaching and access to external courses through our partnership networks. Collaborative Environment: A staffroom culture that prioritizes wellbeing and works to reduce unnecessary workload through shared planning and streamlined administrative processes. Facilities: Access to modern laboratories and a school-wide commitment to utilizing technology to enhance learning. Community Connection: The opportunity to make a tangible difference in a community that values its local school and the opportunities it provides for its young people.
