Job description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

The Opportunity

Are you a dedicated professional with a passion for student welfare and the organizational skills to keep a busy school community running smoothly? Can you be the reliable point of contact for students, providing the practical and emotional support they need to succeed?

We are seeking a proactive and empathetic Student Services Officer to join a vibrant support team in Camden. Situated in the heart of London—famous for its world-renowned markets, rich musical history, and eclectic spirit—Camden is a borough that prides itself on diversity and inclusivity. We are looking for an individual who can navigate the complexities of student life with compassion, resilience, and total professionalism.

Core Responsibilities

  • Student Welfare Hub: Acting as the primary point of contact for students throughout the school day, managing the Student Services desk and addressing a wide range of enquiries, from lost property to personal wellbeing.

  • Attendance & Punctuality: Monitoring student attendance in real-time using systems like Arbor or SIMS, making parental contact where necessary, and working closely with the Attendance Officer to improve school-wide participation.

  • First Aid & Medical Coordination: Providing basic first aid (training provided) and managing student medical records, ensuring that care plans for students with specific health needs are up-to-date and accessible.

  • Behavior Support Administration: Assisting the pastoral team with the administration of the school’s behavior policy, including the coordination of detentions, internal exclusions, and the tracking of positive merit points.

  • Communication Link: Serving as a vital bridge between the school, parents, and external agencies, ensuring that safeguarding information and general updates are shared accurately and sensitively.

  • Events & Logistics: Providing administrative support for school events, such as parents' evenings, vaccination clinics, and student photo days, ensuring a seamless experience for the whole community.

Why This School?

  • Camden’s Vibrant Context: Work in a borough that is a cultural crossroads, offering a uniquely diverse and energetic environment where no two days are the same.

  • A Supportive Pastoral Network: Join a team that prioritizes the "whole child," where support staff are seen as equal partners in the educational journey alongside teaching staff.

  • Commitment to Wellbeing: Benefit from a school that understands the demands of frontline student support, offering a collaborative office environment and clear lines of communication.

  • Professional Growth: Access to specialist training in Safeguarding (Level 3), Mental Health First Aid, and Data Management, with pathways toward Pastoral Lead or Safeguarding Manager roles.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally in an educational or youth work setting, is highly desirable.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional ability to build rapport with teenagers, remaining calm, authoritative, and empathetic even in challenging situations.

  • Organizational Mastery: The ability to multitask in a high-pressure environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy in record-keeping and data entry.

  • Discretion & Sensitivity: A deep understanding of the importance of confidentiality and data protection (GDPR), particularly when handling sensitive student information.

  • Character: A resilient, flexible, and team-oriented individual who is passionate about removing the barriers to learning for every student.
