Job description
The Opportunity Are you a sharp analytical mind with a passion for how the world works? Can you inspire students to look beyond the headlines and understand the forces that shape our global and local markets? We are seeking an intellectually curious and engaging Economics Teacher to join a high-achieving Social Sciences department in Hull . As the "City of Culture" and a key player in the UK’s "Energy Estuary," Hull is undergoing a massive economic transition toward renewable technologies and maritime innovation. This provides a fascinating, real-world laboratory for an Economics specialist. We are looking for an educator who can navigate the complexities of macro and micro theory while fostering a genuine sense of global citizenship. Core Responsibilities Curriculum Excellence: Planning and delivering high-quality Economics lessons primarily at Key Stage 5 (A-Level) , with opportunities to support Business or Citizenship at Key Stage 4. Theoretical Mastery: Delivering expert instruction on core economic pillars, including Supply and Demand, Market Failure, Monetary Policy, and International Trade . Data Analysis: Teaching students how to interrogate complex datasets, evaluate economic indicators (GDP, CPI, Unemployment), and construct logical, evidence-based arguments. Exam Preparation: Guiding students through the rigours of external examinations ( AQA or Edexcel ), with a heavy focus on high-level evaluative essay writing and quantitative skills. Contemporary Application: Integrating current events—from global supply chain shifts to local "Levelling Up" initiatives—into the curriculum to ensure Economics remains a living, breathing subject. Pastoral Leadership: Serving as a dedicated Form Tutor, providing a supportive environment and helping students navigate their pathways to university or higher-level apprenticeships. Why This School? Hull’s Economic Revival: Work in a city that is a focal point for the "Green Industrial Revolution," offering unique local case studies on regional investment and infrastructure. A Culture of Scholarship: Join a faculty that treats Economics as a high-status academic discipline, with a strong track record of students progressing to Russell Group universities. Collaborative Environment: Benefit from a school that values departmental autonomy and shared planning, allowing you to refine your pedagogical approach alongside experienced specialists. Professional Growth: Access to specialist CPD in Econometrics , Marking for the Top Grades , and pathways toward Head of Social Sciences or Director of Sixth Form . Candidate Profile Qualifications: Must hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a degree in Economics or a related discipline (e.g., PPE, Finance). Early Career Teachers (ECTs) are warmly encouraged to apply. Analytical Rigour: The ability to explain abstract concepts—like the "Multiplier Effect" or "Elasticity"—using clear models and real-world analogies. Engaging Presence: A communicator who can command a classroom and facilitate respectful, high-level debate on contentious economic policies. Character: A resilient, reflective, and collaborative professional who believes that economic literacy is a vital tool for social mobility and informed adulthood.
