Job description
A high-performing post-16 centre in Derby is seeking an engaging and academically strong Teacher of Psychology and Sociology to join its thriving Social Sciences faculty. This is an exciting opportunity to teach motivated, independent learners in a setting that prides itself on strong academic results, professional culture and university progression. The Sixth Form Setting This well-established sixth form serves students from across Derby and surrounding areas. It has developed a strong academic reputation, with consistently high A-Level outcomes and excellent progression to Russell Group universities, degree apprenticeships and professional pathways. The learning environment is mature and focused. Students are independent, aspirational and accustomed to high expectations. Staff enjoy the ability to teach at depth, fostering analytical discussion and intellectual curiosity. The campus includes: Dedicated sixth form study spaces and quiet learning areas Subject-specific classrooms designed for discussion-based teaching Strong IT infrastructure to support independent research Structured pastoral and academic mentoring systems The Social Sciences Department Psychology and Sociology are both popular and high-performing subjects within the centre. Uptake has grown steadily in recent years, and examination outcomes consistently compare favourably with national averages. The department works collaboratively to: Develop carefully sequenced schemes of work aligned with exam board requirements Share assessment materials and model answers Embed exam technique and essay writing skills Support students through structured revision programmes Teaching is discussion-driven, with a strong emphasis on critical thinking, research methods and contemporary case studies. The Role You will teach Psychology and Sociology across A-Level. The school is seeking a candidate who: Has strong subject knowledge and academic confidence Can deliver engaging seminar-style lessons Is confident supporting extended essay writing and exam preparation Values collaboration and shared planning Can inspire students to pursue further study in social sciences Experience teaching both subjects is desirable, though strong specialism in one with willingness to teach the other may be considered.
