Job description
A well-regarded secondary school in Lambeth is seeking an organised, proactive and detail-focused Attendance & Admissions Officer to join its busy administration and pastoral team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands the importance of strong attendance, accurate records and positive communication with families, and who enjoys working in a role that makes a direct difference to student engagement and wellbeing. Attendance and punctuality are key priorities, and this role plays a vital part in ensuring students are present, safe and ready to learn, while also supporting smooth admissions processes. About the Role As Attendance & Admissions Officer , you will support the effective management of attendance and admissions systems, ensuring information is accurate, timely and handled professionally. You will work closely with pastoral leaders, safeguarding staff and senior leaders to ensure concerns are identified early and followed up consistently. Key responsibilities will include: Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality, ensuring rapid, accurate follow-up of absence Making first-day calls and maintaining clear records of communications and outcomes Supporting attendance meetings, action plans and persistent absence strategies Liaising with families to address barriers to attendance and promote strong routines Supporting admissions processes, including applications, transfers and record management Maintaining accurate pupil records and ensuring compliance with school procedures Producing reports and attendance/admissions information to support decision-making Liaising with external agencies and local authority teams where appropriate Ensuring attendance and admissions systems support safeguarding and student wellbeing This role requires excellent organisation, strong attention to detail and the confidence to communicate sensitively and consistently with families. The Team You will join a supportive team that works closely across admin, pastoral and safeguarding to ensure students are well supported. The school values teamwork, professionalism and clear communication, and the Attendance & Admissions Officer plays a central role in helping systems run smoothly and consistently. Training and support will be available to ensure you feel confident with school processes and database systems. Key Information Location: Lambeth, London Start Date: ASAP / next term (or by agreement) Contract: Full-time, permanent (or as agreed) Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience Experience and Skills The successful candidate will ideally have: Experience in attendance, admissions, administration or a similar role Strong communication skills and confidence working with parents and students Excellent organisation and attention to detail, with accurate record keeping Confidence using IT systems, including spreadsheets and database-style systems Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and professional boundaries A calm, consistent approach and the ability to manage competing priorities School-based experience is desirable but not essential for candidates with strong transferable skills.
