Location: Spinney Hills, Leicester Job Title: Behaviour Mentor – Primary & Nursery Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience Start Date: ASAP or next academic term School Overview This Primary and Nursery School in Spinney Hills is celebrated for its inclusive ethos, nurturing environment, and strong focus on emotional and social development alongside academic achievement. The school leadership recognises that early behavioural challenges often stem from unmet emotional or developmental needs. To support pupils effectively, the school has developed robust pastoral frameworks, SEND provision, and targeted behaviour mentoring programmes. With increasing numbers of pupils requiring personalised support across Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1, the school is looking to recruit a dedicated Behaviour Mentor. Role Purpose The Behaviour Mentor will provide consistent, structured support to children experiencing difficulties with behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction. Pupils may present with SEMH needs, ADHD, ASD, attachment difficulties, or other developmental challenges affecting learning and social engagement. This role involves working closely with pupils 1:1, in small group interventions, and within classroom settings, helping them build resilience, confidence, and positive social behaviours. You will also support teachers, EYFS staff, and parents to ensure consistent behaviour strategies are applied throughout the school environment. Key Responsibilities Deliver 1:1 behavioural and emotional support to pupils with additional needs Facilitate small group programmes focused on social skills, emotional literacy, and self-regulation Support children across Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1 classrooms Assist pupils with transitions, routines, and structured/unstructured activities Support behaviour management during playtimes, lunchtimes, and other unstructured periods Implement and monitor behaviour support plans, tracking progress effectively Use restorative, play-based, and trauma-informed strategies to support positive behaviour Model positive behaviour and emotional regulation for pupils Observe, assess, and record pupil progress and outcomes of interventions Contribute to planning, review meetings, and multi-agency discussions Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and external professionals Collaborate closely with teachers, EYFS staff, SENCO, and pastoral teams Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies consistently Promote a school culture of empathy, inclusion, and mutual respect The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be compassionate, patient, and emotionally resilient, with a strong commitment to supporting young children. You will recognise that challenging behaviour is often a form of communication and respond with consistency, empathy, and structured strategies. You should demonstrate: Experience working in Primary, Nursery, or EYFS settings Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and attachment-informed approaches Ability to implement behaviour interventions and monitor outcomes Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills Reflective practice and proactive problem-solving Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of children and staff Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, psychology, or youth work are desirable but not essential.
