Location: Clarendon Park, Leicester Job Title: Behaviour Mentor – Primary & Nursery Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only Salary: Competitive, depending on experience Start Date: ASAP or next academic term School Overview This Primary and Nursery School in Clarendon Park is widely recognised for its nurturing, inclusive environment and commitment to developing children’s emotional, social, and academic potential. Serving a diverse and vibrant community, the school prioritises early intervention, pastoral care, and specialist support for pupils with additional needs. The school leadership team understands that early behavioural challenges often reflect unmet social or emotional needs, particularly in Nursery and Reception children. To address this, the school has developed robust behaviour mentoring programmes, SEND provision, and pastoral support systems. The Behaviour Mentor role is pivotal in supporting pupils to develop resilience, self-confidence, and positive social skills. Role Purpose The Behaviour Mentor will provide structured, consistent support to pupils experiencing difficulties with behaviour, emotional regulation, or social interaction. Pupils may present with SEMH needs, ADHD, ASD, attachment difficulties, or other developmental challenges affecting social and emotional skills. The role involves direct 1:1 support, small group interventions, and classroom-based support to ensure pupils can engage fully in learning. You will also work closely with teachers, EYFS staff, SENCO, and parents to implement consistent behaviour strategies and interventions across the school. Key Responsibilities Deliver 1:1 behavioural and emotional support for pupils with additional needs Lead small group interventions targeting social skills, self-regulation, and emotional literacy Support pupils within Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1 classrooms Assist children during transitions, routines, and structured/unstructured activities Support behaviour management during playtimes, lunchtimes, and other unstructured periods Implement and monitor individual behaviour support plans, tracking progress effectively Use restorative, play-based, and trauma-informed strategies Model positive behaviour and emotional regulation for pupils Observe, assess, and record pupil progress and outcomes of interventions Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, EYFS staff, and pastoral teams Build professional relationships with parents, carers, and external professionals Contribute to planning, review meetings, and multi-agency support discussions Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies consistently Promote a school culture of inclusion, empathy, and respect The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be patient, compassionate, and emotionally resilient, with a genuine passion for supporting young children. You will understand that challenging behaviour is often communication and respond with empathy, structure, and consistency. You should demonstrate: Experience working in Primary, Nursery, or EYFS settings Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and attachment-informed practice Ability to implement behaviour interventions and monitor outcomes Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills Reflective practice and proactive problem-solving Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic school environment Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, psychology, or youth work are desirable but not essential. Training, Support, and Career Development The school provides structured induction, supervision, and access to specialist CPD in behaviour management, SEMH, SEND, and early intervention. Behaviour Mentors are supported to develop skills and progress into teaching, SEN support, or pastoral leadership.
