Job description
Receptionist – Welcoming Secondary School – Brighton & Hove Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale (support staff scale depending on experience) School Information This role is based in a respected Independent 11–18 secondary school located in Brighton & Hove . The school is known for its strong community ethos, high academic expectations and supportive relationships between staff and students. The front office plays a key role in creating a positive first impression for visitors and parents. The administrative team works closely together to ensure that communication between staff, students and families remains clear and efficient. The school office is a busy environment where organisation, professionalism and strong communication skills are essential. Role Overview The school is seeking a friendly and professional Receptionist to join the front office team. The Receptionist will act as the first point of contact for visitors, parents and students, ensuring that enquiries are handled efficiently and that the school office operates smoothly throughout the day. This role requires someone who is organised, approachable and able to manage a variety of tasks within a busy school environment. Key Responsibilities • Welcome visitors and manage the school reception area • Answer telephone enquiries and direct calls appropriately • Respond to email enquiries and provide administrative support • Manage visitor sign-in procedures and ensure reception security protocols are followed • Provide information to parents, students and visitors • Assist with student enquiries during the school day • Maintain accurate records and update administrative systems • Support the wider administrative team with general office tasks • Coordinate deliveries and incoming mail • Assist with organising meetings and appointments • Maintain a tidy and professional reception area • Support communication between departments where required Candidate Profile The school is seeking a candidate who is professional, approachable and able to manage front-of-house responsibilities effectively. The ideal candidate will demonstrate: • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Strong organisational abilities • Experience working in a reception or customer service role • Professional telephone manner • Ability to remain calm and efficient in a busy environment • Strong attention to detail • Confidence using office software and administrative systems • Friendly and welcoming approach when dealing with visitors • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues Experience working in a school environment is beneficial but not essential.
