Job description
A well-regarded independent preparatory school in Surrey is seeking an experienced and highly organised HR & Compliance Officer to join its senior administrative team. The school educates pupils from Reception to Year 8 and is known for its strong pastoral ethos, excellent academic preparation and close-knit community. Set within attractive grounds and modern facilities, the school places a strong emphasis on safeguarding, regulatory compliance and staff wellbeing. This role is central to ensuring that all HR processes meet the highest independent sector standards. The Role Working closely with the Head and School Business Manager, you will oversee HR administration and compliance across both teaching and support staff. Your responsibilities will include: Managing recruitment processes in line with safer recruitment standards Maintaining the Single Central Record and safeguarding documentation Coordinating contracts, variations and onboarding processes Supporting staff appraisal and performance management cycles Overseeing DBS checks, right-to-work and reference compliance Assisting with HR policies and regulatory documentation You will also provide administrative support during inspections, ensuring that all compliance records are accurate and up to date. Compliance & Safeguarding Focus You will ensure that: The Single Central Record is fully compliant with ISI requirements All staff vetting documentation is securely maintained HR records are accurate, confidential and regularly audited Policy updates are tracked and implemented effectively Regulatory requirements are met ahead of inspection cycles Precision, discretion and attention to detail are essential in this role. About You Previous HR experience, ideally within education Strong understanding of safeguarding and compliance processes Highly organised with excellent administrative accuracy Confident communicator able to liaise with staff at all levels Able to handle confidential information with professionalism Experience within the independent sector or familiarity with ISI requirements would be highly desirable.
