Job description
A forward-thinking and well-resourced secondary school in Sidcup is seeking a skilled and proactive Design & Technology (DT) Technician to join its DT department. This is a full-time, permanent role available for an immediate start, ideal for someone with practical technical skills and experience supporting teaching staff in a busy school environment. Its DT department is a key part of the curriculum, offering students opportunities to develop skills in product design, resistant materials, electronics, textiles, and computer-aided design. Technicians are considered an essential part of the department, supporting practical lessons, maintaining resources, and helping to ensure a smooth teaching experience. The Role As a DT Technician, you will provide practical support to teaching staff and students to facilitate high-quality DT lessons. Key responsibilities include: Preparing materials, tools, and equipment for practical lessons across all areas of DT. Assisting teachers during practical sessions, including supporting students with the safe use of machinery and tools. Maintaining, organising, and checking the condition of equipment, workshops, and resources. Supporting health and safety compliance in the workshops, including the safe handling and storage of tools, materials, and chemicals. Assisting with project setups, displays, and departmental events. Monitoring stock levels and placing orders as required to ensure continuity of lessons. Candidate Requirements Previous experience as a DT Technician, workshop assistant, or similar practical role. Knowledge of practical DT techniques, tools, and machinery. Strong understanding of health and safety procedures in a workshop environment. Organised, reliable, and proactive with excellent communication skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
