Job description
Librarian – Outstanding Secondary School – Newcastle upon Tyne Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale We are seeking an enthusiastic and organised Librarian to join an Outstanding secondary school in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about literacy, reading and supporting students in developing independent learning skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the school library, ensuring it is a welcoming, well-resourced and inspiring environment for students. You will work closely with staff and students to promote reading for pleasure, support research skills and contribute to whole-school literacy initiatives. This role requires strong organisational skills, a proactive approach and the ability to engage students in reading and learning. You will play a key role in supporting the school’s academic success and fostering a positive reading culture. School Information: This is an 11 to 18 well-established, Outstanding Ofsted Rated School in Newcastle upon Tyne with a strong commitment to high standards, student wellbeing and continuous improvement. The school serves a diverse and ambitious community and is known for its supportive ethos, where positive relationships and high expectations underpin daily practice. Students are respectful, motivated and eager to succeed, creating a calm and purposeful learning environment. The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum and places strong emphasis on literacy and independent learning. The library is a central hub of the school and plays an important role in supporting both academic study and enrichment. Key Responsibilities: • Manage and organise library resources • Promote reading and literacy across the school • Support students with research and study skills • Maintain library systems and catalogues • Organise reading initiatives and events • Work collaboratively with staff Requirements: • Experience in a library or educational setting • Strong organisational skills • Passion for reading and literacy • Excellent communication skills • Ability to engage students • Good IT skills Application To apply, please send your CV as soon as possible
