Job description
A well-regarded independent prep school in Kingston upon Thames is seeking a warm, organised and professional School Receptionist to join its supportive office team. This is a key front-of-house role at the heart of a busy school community, ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in providing a calm, efficient and welcoming service. The school has a strong reputation for its nurturing ethos, clear routines and high expectations for both pastoral care and professional standards. The reception team plays a vital role in ensuring the school runs smoothly each day and that pupils, families, staff and visitors feel welcomed and well supported. About the Role As School Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for parents, visitors, pupils and external professionals. You will help ensure the school office operates effectively and that communication with families is professional, friendly and consistent. Key responsibilities will include: Greeting visitors and ensuring sign-in procedures are followed in line with safeguarding requirements Managing telephone calls, emails and day-to-day enquiries with professionalism and discretion Supporting communication with parents, staff and external agencies Managing post, deliveries and general reception administration Maintaining accurate records and supporting office systems as required Providing calm, professional support to pupils who come to reception during the school day Working closely with colleagues to support the wider organisation and smooth running of the school office This role requires strong organisation, a welcoming manner and the ability to manage competing priorities while remaining calm, approachable and efficient. The Office Team You will join a friendly and collaborative admin team that works closely together to support pupils, staff and families. The school values teamwork, professionalism and clear communication, and the office plays a central role in the daily life of the school. Training and support will be provided to help you feel confident with school systems and procedures, and the school encourages staff to take pride in delivering a high-quality service to the whole community. Key Information Location: Kingston upon Thames Start Date: ASAP / next term (or by agreement) Contract: Full-time, permanent (or as agreed) Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience What the School is Looking For The successful candidate will ideally have: Experience in reception, administration or a customer-facing role Excellent communication skills and a warm, professional manner Strong organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to multitask effectively Confidence using IT systems, including email, spreadsheets and database-style systems Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding in a school environment A calm, reliable and flexible approach to supporting a busy school office School-based experience is desirable but not essential.
