Job description
The Opportunity Bromley is a borough that balances a high standard of educational excellence with a strong sense of suburban community. We are seeking a professional, articulate, and highly organized Admissions Officer to manage the vital process of student enrollment. As the first point of contact for many prospective families, you will act as an ambassador for our school, ensuring that the transition into our community is handled with care, efficiency, and total transparency. This role is ideal for an individual who excels at managing complex administrative systems while providing a warm and welcoming service to the local community. The Administration Team The Admissions department is a high-profile area of the school’s administration, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and the local authority. You will join a professional and supportive office environment where accuracy and a "people-first" approach are the standard. Our team prides itself on being the welcoming face of the school. In a competitive educational landscape, we understand that clear communication and a smooth admissions journey are essential. We provide a modern workspace, access to the latest school management systems, and a collaborative atmosphere where your expertise in admissions criteria and local authority protocols will be highly valued. Main Duties and Responsibilities As the Admissions Officer, you will oversee the end-to-end journey for every student joining the school. Your responsibilities will include: Enrolment Management: Coordinating the main Year 7 intake, mid-term admissions, and Sixth Form applications. You will ensure all processes are conducted in accordance with the school’s admissions policy and national codes of practice. Family Liaison: Acting as the primary point of contact for prospective parents and students. You will handle inquiries via phone, email, and in person, providing clear guidance on the application process and oversubscription criteria. Data Integrity: Managing the admissions module of the school’s Management Information System (such as SIMS or Arbor), ensuring student records are created accurately and that all statutory data is captured. Appeals and Panels: Preparing the necessary documentation for admissions appeals and representing the school’s position with accuracy and professionalism. Transition Coordination: Working closely with primary schools and our pastoral team to manage the "induction" process, ensuring that essential student information is transferred securely and effectively. Event Management: Taking a lead role in the planning and execution of Open Mornings, transition evenings, and Sixth Form interviews, ensuring these events showcase the very best of the school. Statutory Reporting: Liaising with the London Borough of Bromley’s admissions team to coordinate offer days and maintain the school’s waiting lists in accordance with legal requirements. Person Specification The successful candidate will be a poised and dependable professional who can manage sensitive information with total discretion. You should possess: Administrative Experience: Proven experience in an admissions or high-level administrative role, ideally within an educational setting. Communication Excellence: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulatory information to a wide range of stakeholders. ICT Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and experience using school databases to track and report on student information. Interpersonal Skill: A calm, professional, and empathetic manner, with the ability to build rapport with families during what can be a high-stakes decision-making period. Attention to Detail: An unwavering commitment to accuracy, ensuring that all admissions data and legal documentation are error-free. Organization and Resilience: The ability to manage a cyclical workload, meeting strict statutory deadlines while maintaining a high standard of service for current and prospective families. Why Join Our School? Working as an Admissions Officer in Bromley offers a rewarding career path within a prestigious and supportive professional community. Benefits include: Professional Investment: Access to specialized training on admissions law, GDPR, and school management software. A Key Public-Facing Role: Join a team where your work directly shapes the future cohort of the school and the reputation of the institution within the borough. Stability and Benefits: A permanent position with a consistent schedule and access to the local government pension scheme. Location: Benefit from working in a green, well-connected London borough with excellent local amenities and transport links.
