Job description
A well-regarded secondary school in Derby is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Teacher of English to join its successful English department. About the Role As Teacher of English, you will teach across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the possibility of contributing to KS5 depending on experience and timetable. You will deliver a well-sequenced curriculum that develops: Strong reading comprehension and interpretation across a range of literary and non-fiction texts Confident analytical writing through modelling, structure and precise feedback Accurate, fluent written communication supported by explicit teaching of vocabulary, grammar and style Oracy, discussion and critical thinking through purposeful questioning and classroom dialogue Exam confidence through deliberate practice, retrieval and clear routines Students study a rich range of texts, which may include novels, plays, poetry and non-fiction, while developing the skills needed for GCSE English Language and Literature. Lessons are structured to be both challenging and accessible, supporting learners with different starting points through effective scaffolding and stretch and challenge. The English Department The English department is supportive, well-organised and committed to strong outcomes. Teachers collaborate closely on planning, share high-quality resources and use common approaches to assessment so that students build knowledge and skills over time.
