Science Teacher Independent Secondary School in Herefordshire Full Time Role Starting September An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Science Teacher to join a respected independent secondary school in Herefordshire from September. This is a full time, permanent position, ideal for a teacher who is passionate about delivering high quality science education and inspiring pupils to develop curiosity and confidence in scientific thinking. About the School This independent secondary school in Herefordshire is known for its strong academic standards, supportive pastoral care, and commitment to providing a broad and enriching education. The school prides itself on fostering an environment where pupils are encouraged to achieve their full potential while developing independence, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Class sizes are smaller than many larger schools, allowing teachers to build meaningful relationships with pupils and provide tailored support to meet individual learning needs. Staff are valued as professionals and benefit from strong leadership support, opportunities for development, and access to excellent teaching resources. The Science department is a vibrant and collaborative team that delivers engaging lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The department benefits from well equipped laboratories and dedicated technician support, enabling practical learning to play a central role in lessons. Pupils demonstrate a strong interest in science and many go on to pursue science-related subjects at advanced levels. About the Role The successful candidate will teach Science across Key Stages Three and Four, with potential opportunities to contribute to Key Stage Five teaching depending on experience and specialism. You will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons that develop pupils’ understanding of scientific principles while encouraging curiosity and independent thinking. You will plan lessons that challenge pupils of all abilities, assess their progress carefully, and provide constructive feedback to support their development. The role also involves contributing to the wider life of the school through enrichment opportunities such as science clubs, competitions, or trips. Key responsibilities include delivering engaging science lessons, supporting practical investigations, monitoring pupil progress, and maintaining accurate assessment records. You will work closely with colleagues to develop teaching resources and contribute to departmental planning and curriculum development. Experience and Skills The successful candidate will hold Qualified Teacher Status or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification. A strong subject knowledge across science disciplines is essential, along with the confidence to teach pupils across Key Stages Three and Four. You should demonstrate excellent communication skills, effective classroom management, and the ability to inspire pupils to develop a genuine interest in science. A willingness to contribute to extracurricular activities and school life will be highly valued. Applications are welcomed from both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers who are seeking to develop their practice in a supportive independent school environment. Why Join This School This role offers the opportunity to work within a welcoming independent school community that values professional growth and collaboration. Staff benefit from excellent facilities, supportive leadership, and manageable class sizes that allow for high quality teaching and meaningful pupil engagement. The school provides a positive working environment where teachers are encouraged to innovate, share ideas, and develop professionally.
