Job description
A well-regarded and forward-thinking secondary school in Portsmouth is seeking an experienced and organised Senior Science Technician to lead its technician team as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Senior Science Technician to take on a leadership role within a busy and well-equipped Science department. The successful Senior Science Technician will oversee the smooth running of laboratories, manage resources, and support high-quality practical science teaching across the school. Senior Science Technician required – ASAP start Secondary school in Portsmouth Leadership role within a well-resourced Science department Full-time, term-time (plus additional days may be required) The Role The school is looking for a proactive and experienced Senior Science Technician who can lead effectively while supporting day-to-day practical operations. Key responsibilities of the Senior Science Technician include: Leading and managing the Science Technician team Preparing and coordinating equipment and materials for practical Science lessons across KS3–KS5 Maintaining laboratories and ensuring all equipment is safe and functional Managing stock, ordering supplies, and overseeing budgets Ensuring compliance with health & safety regulations, including COSHH Supporting teachers and students during practical sessions where required Organising and maintaining prep rooms and storage areas The School This secondary school in Portsmouth is known for its strong Science provision and commitment to high-quality teaching and learning. The Ideal Candidate The successful Senior Science Technician will: Have experience in a Science Technician role, ideally with leadership responsibilities Possess strong organisational and practical skills Have a good understanding of laboratory health & safety and COSHH regulations Be confident managing stock, equipment, and team members Be proactive, reliable, and able to work independently This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Science Technician to join a secondary school in Portsmouth and play a key role in supporting a high-performing Science department.
