Job description

We are seeking an experienced and organised Finance Officer to join a Good school in Manchester starting September 2026. This is a full-time, permanent position, offering an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial management of a well-regarded school while supporting staff and students through efficient administrative processes. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial records, monitoring budgets, and assisting with the preparation of reports for senior leadership. In this role, you will manage the school’s day-to-day financial activities, including accounts payable and receivable, reconciliation of bank accounts, and preparation of financial statements. You will work closely with the leadership team to monitor budget performance, forecast financial needs, and provide guidance on expenditure. The Finance Officer will also support payroll processes, monitor compliance with financial policies, and assist with audits as required. Key responsibilities will include: Maintaining accurate financial records and ledgers Processing invoices, purchase orders, and payments Reconciling bank statements and monitoring cash flow Assisting with budget preparation and financial reporting Supporting payroll and staff expense processes Ensuring compliance with school financial policies and statutory requirements The ideal candidate will have previous experience in finance, accounting, or a similar administrative role. Strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with financial software are essential. You should be highly organised, capable of prioritising multiple tasks, and able to communicate effectively with staff at all levels. Confidentiality, reliability, and a proactive approach are key attributes for success in this role.
